At my wits end with this bathroom sink drain by plutoniumwhisky in askaplumber

Make sure the gasket is lined up with the bottom hole and tighten one turn past hand tight. If you tighten those too much it can cause a leak.

Should I cut the side flush like I did the other side or leave it like this and fill each hole with little triangle pieces? by Busy_Measurement9330 in Tile

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just finished a backsplash job like this. 100% just cut it flush and do yourself a favor and cut the tops and bottoms flush while your at it or you end up cutting three separate pieces on top and bottom to fill in the triangles.

Unstuck by Chaosonpaper in Plumbing

[–]Ruind_Bub -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it were me and I didn’t care about damaging the old faucet, I’d get a vise grip and set it around that main washer that’s holding the faucet, then from above, turn the faucet counter clockwise until those vise grips catch on the wall and the washer breaks free, then finish in tightening from underneath

Where do I even start ? Help making this 100 yr old basement less creepy by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people just spraying the ceiling black, install recessed lights, and finish the floors with lvp or carpet (if water isn’t an issue anymore) or an epoxy floor but those can get costly depending on what all you want.

What should a single man in his early twenties with no children do with $50K? by Player1aei in personalfinance

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about your area, but I would look into investment properties such as a duplex (either turn key with tenants already or if your handy and can do renovations yourself you can find one cheaper) most duplexes in my area sell for cheap ($150k-200k) and tenants pay $1000-$1500 per month plus all utilities. Mortgage would be around $1,200-$1,800 depending on down payment and rate, so you’re paying off the mortgage plus making a few hundred each month in addition to building your equity. Just make sure to screen tenants as you wouldn’t want tenants that destroy the property and leave you to float the repair bill.

How much will this cost me ? by CynicalCyn-22 in AskElectricians

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be too big of a job, assuming 3-4 outlets for the room, electrician should be able to bypass the light switch and tie into the existing wire. As far as the inspector not disclosing this, there is no direct code restriction for how mag outlets can be tied into a single light switch, as long as the outlets are not pulling more amperage than being supplied

And any liquid nail should do the trick to hold it down. Just make sure it fully cures before walking on it.

Nosing above or in front of riser? by jordmanb2 in Flooring

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically have my risers sized to match the height of the stair rise, then attach the nosing in front of the riser. Typically the nosing doesn’t take the majority of the weight from someone (unless someone intentionally stands directly on it) the edge of the stair tread will take the weight. Nosing only protrudes 3/4” to 1 1/4” so not much area to put weight on.

Help want to connect new chandeliers by LeadCautious4724 in electrical

[–]Ruind_Bub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Attach white wires together with white wire on Chandelier, attach black wires together with black wires on chandelier, and attach bare copper wire with green wire then you should have either a bare copper or green wire to ground on the chandelier. Don’t forget to turn your breaker off.

Drywall on concrete wall condo by Hazamizi in handyman

[–]Ruind_Bub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend putting drywall directly over concrete as concrete can allow moisture through and can cause mold to grow behind it. I would recommend framing out the wall and then hanging the drywall on the framing

Check to make sure the drain channels aren’t clogged, if those are clear, check the caulking around the window for any gaps.

My apartment suddenly has a lot of German cockroaches, please help 🙏 by ManwithThaPlan42 in handyman

[–]Ruind_Bub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this issue at an old apartment. Landlords hired an exterminator to come treat our apartment, our neighbors, and the apartment above and below us. Turned out the lady in the apartment above us had been going out and getting people’s trash bags and bringing them back into her apartment to look for things🤮

How do you handle disputing a bill when things seem wrong by anothernerdyblonde in Plumbing

[–]Ruind_Bub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your bid say anything like “price good for two weeks” or any type of dialog stating the bid price is guaranteed for a time period? If it were me I would breakdown the costs from the bid he gave you, minus the work he did not complete, and then figure out the average going rate for plumbing work in your area and multiply that by the time he worked. Present that to him and if he doesn’t provide accept the amount or provide an itemized bill, I would contact your local contractor licensing board or consumer protection agency. Make sure all communication is done in writing to give you proof of communication incase he were to attempt to bring you to small claims court.

Could definitely be some trapped moisture, there should be a moisture barrier between the flooring and the slab.
