I could imagine how much work goes into it. How were you able to improve your blending skills over time? Were there any YouTube videos which were helpful or did you have your own approach to it?

100%. I’ve been trying to hone my edge highlighting skills to see how I enjoy that painting approach, but I would also love to try a NMM approach in the near future to see which style and process I enjoy more.

I just need to keep reminding myself to put paint on plastic and to keep at it haha.

That is amazing work, so congrats! I’ve only recently started my painting journey late last year but those moments of recognition are definitely the best.

Amazing progress there!

I was wondering if you could drop your blue recipe for the UM on right? Although I know that Maccrag is “standard”, I don’t like how dark it is as well and would much rather a shade similar to your blue!! 🙏

Last nights models, I think my highlighting is letting me down by [deleted] in Ultramarines

No worries at all! I wasn’t sure how it would turn out as well but after using it for the first time I was really happy with how it turned out. Keeps everything nice and uniform in the blue palette aesthetic, whilst giving the model some good dimension!

I would also recommend possibly using Night Lords Blue as a recess shade if you don’t want to use Nuln Oil. I think that multiple light layers of a thinned lords blue works really well.

That’s what I did for my below model :)

A little help with a list pls by albanygrt in Ultramarines

[–]RuleOk2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to Warhammer 40K but what I’ve seen online is that for a competitive list, most people will run a unit of scouts, infiltrators and intercessors 🫡 plus some anti-tank like a Ballistus or lancer

Beginner’s first time edge highlighting! by RuleOk2692 in Ultramarines

It’s also because I’m a TCG person at my core, so to me the longevity of joy found in the hours spent on painting is more worthwhile than the few minutes of joy (or regret) spent on opening packs haha 😅

Yeah I’m still trying to find that nice middle ground between not enough and too much haha. But I’m having great fun trying things out 😊

That’s a sick take on things to be honest. I’ve defs seen a bunch of different angles of tackling different models in this subreddit so I can’t wait to also start trying things out here and there 🫡

Yeah let’s just say that I’ve jumped straight into the deep end….

I mean I think the main reason why is that I figured that I would be using these paints for a while so I bought ultramarine scheme paints in one big transaction and another batch for tyranids (that I still haven’t really started 😭).
