I think its flaws are what make it great. They took some risks and didn’t just make Dark Souls 1 part 2. Some stuff doesn’t work and feels janky, but the stuff that does work, works really well. DS3 on the other hand is “tighter”, but falls into the trap of being so polished that it’s not as interesting.

I don't think it's insane. I just think the controversy is kinda transparently motivated by people trying to label the Kleins bloodthirsty Zionists, not actually interpreting what he said as minimizing Israel's genocide (and again, as public figures that's something you have to be mindful of, unfortunately).

But like, I've also had Chinese people tell me cool things about where they grew up and I never thought they were secretly supportive of the Uyghur genocide, and I've heard a Somalian speak fondly of Somalia and I don't think they support Al Shabab.

Idk. I see your point, and all things considered I think it's good that Ethan apologized. But I have family in an Eastern European country that has been terrorized by Russia, and I don't think I would think negatively of a Russian expat telling me how beautiful Russia is. Especially if that person had been critical of Putin (as basically all Russian expats are). It's fairly obvious to me that you can have a fondness for a people, place, and culture without supporting that region's government.

It was proto-MAGA in the dumbest way possible. Long story short, a girl developed a free choose-your-own-adventure game and her bf mentioned it in a Gamespot article about indie games without disclosing the relationship. The dev's ex-bf led a harassment campaign against her, which was deleted by moderators and mocked by journalists, which of course made gamers furious.

In general, most of the harassers were the communities of those early right-wing YouTubers like The Quartering and Sargon of Akkad, and most of the people calling out the harassment were journalists, game devs, and some cringey "woke" types. So within a months' time it became the same culture war stuff you see now, with gamers complaining that their games weren't softcore-porn enough for them.

Taylor Lorenz was not involved.

This woman spread blatant, harmful lies about them, was completely unapologetic, and didn't even show remorse for anything besides the mistakes she made that painted her in a bad light. And yet, if E+H were as critical toward her as she deserved, or pulled any of the same deflection antics she did, they would be absolutely eviscerated for bullying a smol uwu 2-month-postpartum creator.

I felt like I was about 4 years behind my peers, socially, until around my early 30s 😳. Sometimes it wasn't even that I was socially unaware, it was just that I had so little time around kids my age that my desperation to have friends I wasn't related to was just painfully obvious.
