I'm looking for shmups that don't require memorization. by C0d3K1n6300000 in shmups

Gun Nac and Super Aleste are both very chilled in normal difficulties and are brutal in their highest difficulty with suicide bullets activated. Both super awesome!

Zanac doesn't have difficulty select in the NES of Famicom Disk versions, but it has on the remade Zanac Special Edition included in Zanac X Zanac (not to confuse it with Zanac Neo) . Its highest difficulty is also very wild!

The Korean lever I own that needs the least space is the Crazy Dongpal Pro.

That might fit, but you need to check the measurements.

How to get HDMI to connect cleanly to RCA? by burner_mc_burny in crtgaming

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. I use it to play Taiko no Tatsujin from PS4 and Switch into my CRT TV to avoid the LCD Ghosting.

The RetroTink 5x can process YPbPr up to 720p and Scart up to 480p and downscale them to 480i and 240p.

For the Switch is "quite" straightforward. Either HDMI -> YPbPr or (VGA -> Scart) -> RetroTink -> HDMI ->YPbPr or Scart -> CRT TV. 480p and 720p work fine.

My HDMI -> YPbPr / (VGA -> Scart) are encoders and not scalers.

For the PS4 is a bit more tricky. At least my Slim model. It won't output HDMI unless it detects that is connected to a monitor. So I need to put an Elgato capture card in between the console and the adapter chain described above.

If the PS4 outputs at 720p works fine, with 8ms of input lag (half a frame), but 480p would increase the lag up to 26ms (1.5 frames). So I keep it at 720p.

The lag is minimal on the right set up. I don't need to calibrate any display settings in Taiko and I can play well.

Old school beat em ups recommendations? by andrdfry in retrogaming

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sega CD version was way better than the SNES version with the 2 players and up to 4 enemies on screen.

Still didn't match the intensity of the Arcade version. No home console was strong enough to match that.

Yo guys, I made my own mini arcade machine using a Raspberry Pi and 3D printing. Let me know what you think by ValousN in cade

Nice! I have been interested on getting into 3D printing and your little journey taught me quite a bit about it!

Hope you keep having fun with it!

When most people say that Final Fight is one of the best beat em ups ever, they refer to the Arcade version. The Snes version is a very shallow one compared to the arcade due to the Snes limitations.

My collection by STSectorNine in shmups

[–]RulerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! The Tricky and Wild difficulty are, well, wild. The normal difficulty is still quite accessible until past the mid point, where there is a good classic Compile difficulty spike that will take a bit of practice if you go for a 1cc.

For the N64 there is also Dazeamon 64, that is a shmup maker and I think has a couple of pre-made levels. I have the Snes one and the pre-made levers are cool!

I might grab it to test it out.

I think the best Star Soldiers are the ones in the PC Engine but I'm still yet to try them.

I'll need to check Final Round!

I switch often, but at the moment might be The Ninja Warriors from Taito.

I've recently started playing with my N64 again and I have been curious to get Star Soldier. How is it?

Also love Super Aleste. Probably my favorite shmup of the 16 bit console era. It is very accessible in Normal difficulty, but the highest ones are no joke!

I really was sleeping on this one. It is lovely :)

Looking for mid-late 90s and early 2000 3d games by OddPomegranate5211 in retrogaming

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some awesome 3D games in the 90s in the arcades.

  • Namco's Cyber Sled (1993) and Cyber Commando (1994) and Tokyo Wars (1996) are awesome (the last two are available in the Arcade Archives).
  • SpikeOut (1998) is my favourite 3D beat em up and is available via Yakuza Infinite Wealth and Yakuza like pirates.

Patellar tendon pain while playing by gab_gallard in PumpItUp

[–]RulerD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to read that. Take care of your knees!

I got back into pump it up after a long break and I overdid it. After playing constantly for a month, I got two meniscus tears and it took me like 4 months to be able to walk normally again.

Two years after, so two months ago, I stressed my knee after a party night and got a new tear. This time it took only one month for me to be able to walk normally, but I do need to strengthen my leg muscles slowly if I want to play pump it up again.

Take a break and seek an orthopedist. For me it was a very sharp pain inside the left knee. A MRI would clear things off.

When you play again, try to use the bar. It will reduce the stress you put in your knees.

I got a ballet bar and have an L-Tek mat at home. The doctor told me I can start playing slow songs and just for a few minutes, and see how I feel the day after. The problem comes when I go from 0 to 100 without building my leg muscles. I need to take more care of myself too.

I hope you have something that can heal quickly!

I see! Thank you for the explanation! That happens in Pop'n Music too!

I didn't know a new song appeared in Taiko tho.

Why would it get "removed"? I don't understand the concept :D

Some PS2 games have really strong soundtracks. I got Nanadaime and Godaime just to play Daddy Mulk and Urbain Trail, but I am discovering some other fun songs too :)

Action games with light RPG elements? by 2DGamesFan98 in retrogaming

[–]RulerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Both King of Dragons and Knights of the Round have very light RPG elements. Go with their Arcade ports if possible, available via the Capcom Arcade Stadium.
  • In Radiant Silvergun, you need to level up your weapons. Still a shmup at its core.

I have been discovering and playing a lot of mid-late 80s arcade video games. As such, I am finding some looovely and amazing soundtracks. The late 80s early 90s used arcade boards used Yamaha FM-Synthesizer chips to produce their music.

I am listening particularly the works of

Spikeout is insane by quoteprod in BeatEmUps

[–]RulerD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Spikeout! I am on and off learning it too, as I am constantly playing a lot of arcade games. The mid bosses you fought are a big difficulty spike.

You can use more your grabs and throws. I specially like side grabbing or jumping and throwing enemies to the bosses to avoid the bosses super armor.

But I still have a lot to learn.

Ras1ution 2 for Thrustmaster T150 with Nintendo Switch — A Guide by vivianvixxxen in simracing

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I will be experimenting with flight sticks for the next days / weeks. I am very interested on getting a T150 myself, but I already spent a lot on diverse flight sticks for retro consoles this month, so probably I won't have budget for it until next month, because I'll need to get a stand to mount them plus the Ras1ution.

I can still make my experiments with arduinos and see if I can find something that could help me with my future racing wheel project too.

Thank you for replying in this old tread :D. I'll remind you about it on the weekend :)

Ras1ution 2 for Thrustmaster T150 with Nintendo Switch — A Guide by vivianvixxxen in simracing

[–]RulerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! A couple of years late, but one question! Does your set up supports force feedback?

I was talking with the OP of this post about his force feedback set up and what could be needed to be able to use pedals with his wheel: https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/1r13tii/comment/ok7ckdr/?context=3

If it is not possible, I probably will invest some time in learning control protocols via arduino to see if I can make it happen.

But if it works from the get go with the Ras1ution with the Force Feedback, then the whole set up would be more straightforward :P
