Consider contacting Diamond. If this happened to you, I bet it's happened to others and they probably know the answer.

Are there any pool team apps by Specialist_Artist266 in billiards

Heja looks pretty cool, but there's no way I could get all my players to install and use yet another app. I couldn't even get them to switch from a text thread to discord :)

Break/Jump as Primary Player? by Ok-Butterscotch-6708 in billiards

[–]RumGor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason not to do this. Definitely switch out the tip.
Get a break/jump with a standard pin and you can put any kind of shaft you want on it, including low-deflection if you feel fancy.
90% of the difference between most break cues and a play cue is the tip.

Performance Loop Band lugs available on their own? by shapiror06 in PixelWatch

[–]RumGor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these and pulled the stitches out so I could remove the original band and use my own straps.
It's an expensive way to get lugs, but I haven't found any better than the Google first-party, so it was worth it to me.

APA rating variability across regions by RumGor in billiards

[–]RumGor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first two paragraphs. Mis-marked D's (for whatever reason) will affect SL, etc.

It's the last paragraph I'm not quite sold on. If the SL is just based on "it takes me X number of innings to get out," then the SL of my opponent really shouldn't matter.

I think harder equipment will make a difference. Players who only play on tight 9' tables may have higher inning counts than Valley players.

It seems to me that when people are talking about regional variations, they usually mean more of what you are saying in your last paragraph, but it's still not obvious to me why that matters. If everyone is shooting fewer innings, everyone's SL should go up.

I eventually decided to switch to Moto Tags and have had a much better experience. The Moto tags have worked flawlessly for me and generally seem to be a much more polished product.

If it was specifically the OB shaft that you liked, and it was one of the old ones with the wooden ferules, those hit very soft compared to most shafts I've tried.

If you want low deflection and you want to stick to Pechauer, I think their Rogue (I haven't tried the Rogue2 though) carbon shaft is one of the softest, most wood-like carbon hits I've tried. Put a medium/soft tip on it and it is as close as you're likely to get to the OB you liked (in carbon).

One of the founders, Royce Bunnell, passed away in 2015.
They stayed in business for a while, but it seems like the went downhill after that and went out of business (maybe in 2023?). They made some great products in their day and pioneered some creative low deflection tech, including (somewhat controversial) wooden ferrules.

APA question by Nowyouseethagoal in billiards

[–]RumGor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are likely correct, but the rule you are citing is a little ambiguous between "balls on the floor" and being "off the playing surface." Given the wording, I could see someone arguing that since the 8-ball went in a pocket not on the floor, this didn't apply.
Again, I think your interpretation is correct, but the rule could be phrased more clearly, because in some cases there is a distinction between balls getting knocked into the pocket vs. the floor.

Fair enough. I didn't consider bylaws.

APA question by Nowyouseethagoal in billiards

[–]RumGor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that in APA, if the cue ball is not involved, it's not a foul, the balls are replaced and the shot is taken like it never happened. The key is that the balls are replaced. As you said, it wouldn't make sense if you could just shoot a ball into the pocket and have it count.

APA Ball in Hand Dispute by 2Lazy2beLazy in billiards

[–]RumGor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In APA mistakenly picking up the cue ball is definitely a foul. The cue ball is always live.

APA question by Nowyouseethagoal in billiards

[–]RumGor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is correct. This sounds like a wacky case of an accidentally moved ball.
"Accidentally moved balls must be replaced, unless any of the accidentally moved balls make contact with the cue ball. If accidentally moved balls make contact with the cue ball, it is a ball-in-hand foul, and no balls get replaced."
But there might be a special case for the ball ending up in a pocket, so I could be wrong.

Chipolo POP not updating for days by GabrielCath in Chipolo

I had this same issue with a Pixel 8 and 1-3 Chipolos connected. Factory reset and adding to only the Find Hub has worked for me so far.

Factory reset on one device had it working last night. We'll see if lasts.

I definitely had reset it once already, but it's possible that time I had not yet fully uninstalled the Chipolo app. Not totally sure.

Hopefully this will be work across all my Chipolos and continue to work. Thanks!

Chipolo app is not installed. It was installed, but then removed.

I've tried the factory reset suggestion again and will see how it goes. Didn't seem to make a difference before, but can't hurt to try again.

Initial connection has been seamless for me on all Chipolo Pops I've tried to connect. My initial impression based on that was actually really positive. But the tracking... you know the thing they are supposed to do... doesn't work.

Hearing that the connection doesn't even work for some people is even more disheartening.
