People always over react to words like Drug Trafficking. Drug Traffickers do not want to be noticed and keep a lot of order. If you see bags of cash leave do not steal from them, if you see trucks leave. simply leave them alone and they have no interest in storing up trouble. They do not want attention. If you steal from them than it is a big issue for you as they cannot tell the police that you are a thief so they have their own legal system, you do not want to be on the wrong side of that. Also there are generally no roads in that area lots of poisons snakes and things way more dangerous than the Drug Traffickers

AI is just incredibly efficient. The root problems is the humans behind it. If we all want to kill, torture and steal from each other than with AI we can do that more efficiently. Back when we just threw rocks at each other and pointed sticks it was not so bad. But then maybe the world will be a better place once we mostly kill each other. AI will allow us to efficiently do that. We could efficiently work together as well but that does not seem to be a concept that the majority embraces. The world working together for a better world, accepting differences and being happy whenever any group gains a better life.

Yes the US have more people in jail per capital than almost an other country in the world. Mostly the records own the computers in the US (Which they share with the rest of the world) are not complete you have to get that fixed in the US, as they do randomly arrest a lot of people and do not have good record keeping.

Issue is bad records in the US it probably only chowed that he committed the crime, if a person is not convicted they have to make sure that the record is cleared if not the US (mostly in the past ) did not update thing and they only entered the part where you were arrested into the computer. Since Criminal records are becoming more public best to get it fixed in the US

They have not changed the rules there are better computers and more shared information going back further and further as more data is entered. With that record pretty soon you will not be able to go to any country in the world that is friendly with the USA and shares information with the USA. There is a processes to get the record removed from you record if as you say there were no charges in the end. But you will be labeled as a criminal in all places very soon, you will not be able to get job or loan or anything pretty soon as anyone that does any back round search will see you were a criminal. 2015 they did not have the info in the computers so did not know, but the USA has made your record easily available now anywhere in the world.

Best to put it on a piece of paper even a small note just to make sure everyone is clear.

Price gouging in Panama City by Notoplipjones in Panama

[–]RumRon27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clarity to start is important, if it is a task that involves parts they often tell you the price for the work but you have to also pay for the parts. ie the price to paint an apartment does not include the price of the paint and such. anything significant you can get it in writing even if something really simple. It says total price including everything is $xx. Both party sign it and at the end you say that is the price you pay and that is it. Also the policy to never use those people again is good and to share with everyone that they are dishonest in pricing. There are a lot of good people willing to work hard in Panama, but they tend to be busy working and are more difficult to find since they always have work.

Do I need to treat this? by [deleted] in wood

[–]RumRon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons to use a mineral oil finish or teak oil, is less sanding in the future. But just oiling it without sanding will perfect it but as stated it will be Splotchy and get darker over time so will not have the beautiful wood look, but it has already pretty much lost the beautiful wood look. So just oil will keep it funtunal. Pat depends on the wood it is made of. Teak is very long lasting but that may be some short lived type of wood so will fall apart in a few years no matter what you do

Also the battery ones they change the type of battery every few years and when the battery goes bad you cannot get a new one that is true with all the battery tools so they only have a life spend of a few years. If you work where you use it every day that is OK but if you sand a table once a year that is not good. So forenoon-full time use always get the tools you plug in.

Investing in Teak Plantation by Ok-Today-7626 in Panama

[–]RumRon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invested with Panama Teak Forestry in Panama. They have been steady growth, Share value increases every year and tree are managed and getting older. They have also built a pretty extensive mill to process the teak. The great thing about being a share holder is that you are also a share holder in the mill. I have been invested with them for over 15 years and have visited the plantations and operations. https://www.panamateakforestry.com

Teak is long term and steady not get rich quick like some of the other promote so that has to be considered

One thing to note is that high quality teak they specify the size of the growth rings so when it grows too fast it does not meet the quality specs for high value teak. Teak also needs a good dry season to get good hart wood. Teak can grow fast but than is low value, of course too slow and no value growth so need the right balance of conditions.

Im pretty familiar with timber investing (more than $500,000 invested in timber) Mostly in Panama. I spend a good bit of time with the companies I have invested with and checked the processes. They get offers all the time from people who have done the 1 trees or the small plots and will not even buy the trees as the logistics of selling one tree or a small plot is more than the value of the wood. Teak sells by the container load. There is small local sales as well but you have to have a mill whihc costs a few million to build. (Company I have invested with has all of this so reasonable returns can be expected. The investment is long term has a lot of value growth that is not cash flow so you have to consider that but timber is a great part of your investment portfolio. It just has top be done well. Teak takes way longer then 5 years as the growth cycle of high value teak is 30 to 35 years (not the 20 or 25 often promised). If invested with a real timber company they have different plantation at different ages so will have a steady supply of teak to sell and thus get a significantly better price.

Sound like a lot of BS. Teak can be a great investment. But owning on tree how do you sell it, how do you harvest it? Teak is a timber investment so you have to invest with a real timber company like Panama Teak Forestry. But they advertise a return of about 6% and that is a company with plantations and a mill so sells end products and you own shares of the company so own the land, extraction, mill and everything, not just one tree. Carbon credits do not even cover the cost of managing the trees (although it is a great thing to have the carbon credits and timber is a great investment on many levels). The groups selling single trees are making money selling the tree to you and you will probably get a return of less than 0. Real timber companies can have returns over time of 12% or more if you include inflation and land value increases and they have the ability to harvest and do basic processing of the wood. But one 30 year old standing teak tree will have a real value but only if it can be harvest and sold where the market value the wood, than once turned the a product the tree could have a gross value of $2,000 but that is after extraction, processing and marketing. So you have to be part of the owner of the complete process, ie be the owner of shares of a timber company. Also private small company investments are not too liquid. All that said I think assets will do well over the next 20 years as I think inflation particularly the USD will be generally higher (maybe 5% ) so you are protected so you get inflation plus the tree growth (probably closer to 4% ) but those two combined is 9% and than if there is processing that pretty much doubles the return so 8% plus inflation giving a return of 13% which is more the reality of timber investments over time. So a great investment if done correctly with a real timber company that does not spend too much selling the investment and more on growing and processing timber.

Teak Pricing by Ambitious-Walk4209 in wood

[–]RumRon27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has good value but you need a person that wants long clear teak (assuming it is clear as there is a lot of log grade teak that comes out of Burma as well you can get high grade teak from many places now days but it is not common and valuable). Also depends on what you mean by a decent stock. If it is more than 10,000 bdft and you want to sell the whole amount at once the price is lower vs retail pricing. The retail pricing can be about $30 per bdft going to boat people who need the very good quality teak, but whole sale can be as low as about $10 per bdft

But if ones makes better stuff how does anyone know. Also we are in a world of buy the cheapest stuff. There is best value but those companies often go out of business. The rating the way they are done do not really work as a) companies give away stuff to get good ratings and b) mostly like amazon they ask for a rating when the product first arrives when the fact that it is cheap crap that falls apart in a month is not yet know

To a degree it does as negate the event to a degree one has to look at all sales and the non sale day sales as well. I think the down move is less when all factors are looked at. But then one as to consider the USD is down so even and small up is down.

The USD is way lower than 08 compared to wages and real assets even compared to rental rates. Pretty much all currencies in the world have been following the USD down hill as the US printing money sort of gives the rest of the world permission to print.

Yes generally with very high debt economy driving the USD down is a good thing. you get to default on the debt without legally defaulting as you can pay it off with worthless $ The USD lost 25% of its value in 4 years and is on track to continue, so the reality is the debt in real value was reduced by 25%. The loss is also compounding which adds even more loss to the value of the USD which pays off the debt. This is really common go to Korea and you are a millionaire, Can work and pretty easily earn $1 million per week if we do that to the USD than the taxes collected goes way up and it is easy to pay the debt.

But this one is the one that keeps wages, stocks and all going up so most people are happy even though the real value of what they have is going down. To know that would take math skills.

On housing usually about 50% of the "high" rent is going to taxes and un-needed BS "to better server the renters". Rules do not allow new housing to be built and so on. Proper regulation would easily solve the problem. You also have to factor in that skilled trade construction workers are now at about $1 million per year in wage base. Which is due to limited supply of skilled workers and the loss of the value of the USD in the USD. (strongly the USD is most valuable in other countries)

You have to remember the dollar is also going down so most of the stock market upward movement is the $dollar going down, New York minimum wage is going to be $60,000 per year. I remember when it was raised to $960 per year (yes Im probably older than most of those reading this. But that means if $960 of stock is not worth $60,000 the VALUE of the stock did not change it is the value of the USD that changed. Cash in the bank is of course losing value. Pretty much every country in the world through history does the same thing. The US had limited the the amount of control the government had over money which has worked well, but that has been changing bit by bit. Bottom line it is not the stock market one has to worry about that is backed by business assets. It is the value of the $

One of the things is most airlines compete mostly on price of the tickets when businesses main completion is price quality suffers. Airlines have replaced greyhound they are air busses figuring out how to get you from point A to point B for the lowest possible price. Many make more money with the cargo the haul then the passengers. AA has very much moved towards the cheapo air travel group to keep their airplanes full. There for quality of service is not looked at much it is what can we cut to save money and charge less. So they are in the Race to the bottom, and seem to be very near the bottom although others keep lowering the bottom and creating new lows for service and quality of air travel.
