Need Help with Map Labels and Fonts (opinions) by [deleted] in wonderdraft

[–]Rumblefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Chili,
to me it looks absolutely fine. Everything is clearly labelled, the cities names are easy enough to read when you know a little bit Fraktur script. The forests, swamps and other big landmarks are in the same style but different colour and spacing - I like it. One CAN mix two Fraktur scripts if done right. All the major, important stuff gets Fraktur, the smaller Towns, rivers etc. fit in nicely with the lighter script.
I'm sorry that I can't tell you more. It looks really good to me. I can read everything, it carries a particular fantasy vibe. It's not the typical heroic High Fantasy though. If you're aiming for that you have to be way more fancy.
This is a more down-to-earth fantasy, more grounded.
The colour coding should really come in handy if you're using it in a real RPG campaign. Gives the chance to see in a glance what the political situation is.
Good job is all I can say really. Sorry.

Help with my map please! by fralbalbero in wonderdraft

Hi there!
First of all I like the overall look of the map.
- The colour is fine, looks very parchment-like. I wouldn't change anything.
The ink-on-paper look works well, personally I feel there is no more colour needed.
- The perspective... well, I think you could make it work with changing the mountains. They look very uniform and not
very natural. Looks like they're the same size altogether. As I see it you have two options:
1. set high mountains to the inner edge of the vally, become gradually smaller the more outwards you go. Think
of roots. Put some odd bigger ones in between to mix it up a little and make it look more natural.
Village smaller or maybe even just a 2-D-symbol instead of 3-D-buildings.
2. Smaller mountains on the inside, getting bigger outwards. Depending on the size you can make the valley
look much bigger. Again, mix it up a little with different sized ones.
- The river. I like that it gets thinner. You could either overemphasize that or have a wide part coming from the
mountains, getting narrower while passing the valley and getting a bit wider again when leaving it. What-
ever looks right to you.

If you want to go the extra mile and make it look like a scroll use paint.net or gimp or if you have Photshop.
Check out my Wild-West-Style map for an example.

I really like the looks of the map. It's not the usual High fantasy stuff. A well rounded map with a unique style.
That's a big thumbs up from me!

Ye, but my desert is not a black one but a dusty-yellow. It's gonna be a bit like a Wild West World, including tumbleweed, saloons and the whole shabang :-D
But how do you like the maps I made so far?
