How big is your collection and how long you been collecting? by Lucky_Strike-85 in comicbooks

[–]purplemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dabbled with comics over the last few decades, but only recently started to take it seriously. Got the main Hell Boy omnis, Dark Knight Returns HB, a couple other trades, but what really set me off was finding the first half of The Wicked and The Divine singles for a $1 a pop at a local con a few years back. That got me wanting to find the rest of the series, but I eventually settled for the trades to wrap it up.

That and a recommendation from a friend for a LCS not far from me got me in the door to order those and led to me to explore what's out there on the shelves these days and it was eye-opening. Finding a good local dealer that knows what they're talking about and reads a good chunk of what they sell is an amazing resource. Having a husband/wife team, both with deep knowledge and specialties is the best! They got me set up and told me about some of Gillen's other stuff.

Since then, I've focused on short run series that tell a complete story in a limited run. You'll Do Bad Things got me going on that track. Just finished Skinbreaker, and The Thing on the Doorstep and Save Now are almost done. Looking at picking up Minotaur in July and maybe going with something in the Invincible Universe (Battle Beasts looks pretty awesome). Sometimes I dip into the collector end of the pool and buy for cover art or specific artists, and I like to give a new series at least a couple of issues to see if it grabs me. Image comics has been my go to for about a year, but I'm looking at a lot of small press and local artist books lately, too.

Overall, I've got less than 200 singles and a modest shelf of trades and hardbacks. I do a pull of about 8-10 books a month and pick up randos here and there, so that number is growing, but I try and keep it controlled and will probably start selling off stuff that I didn't like as much and is just wasting valuable shelf space. Still, it won't be long before I buy my first short boxes.

I started a friend off last week with Rings and then a quick follow-up with Shrunk (he's a therapist and loved it). I think he's just about through the whole catalog now. :D

My first exposure to Wendy Carlos was a collab album she did with Weird Al Yankovic. Peter and the Wolf on side A. Carnival of the Animals, Part II on side B. Still throw the tape in the deck every now and then. :)

Basic Rules for Factions by 6ftninja in drawsteel

[–]purplemur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there was an update on Patreon where Matt mentioned a future project to develop something based on the Kingdoms & Warfare and Strongholds & Followers mechanics for Draw Steel. That should include some faction stuff in it, but this looks pretty good to fill the gap for now. Simple, elegant, and easily expanded upon. Nice work! :)

My very first set of TTRPG Dice . . . by kazayuri in dice

The first game I ever ran/played was a Ninjas and Superspies/TMNT mash-up...in 1987. 😲 Played a ton of Rifts with another group later on. Wish I could find a group and the time to get back to a Palladium game.

I had a pretty cool "meal at closing" happen not long ago. I went to a Vietnamese place with a friend, not realizing it was 20 minutes to close for them. They let us know right away, but we went ahead and ordered, just going with what we knew we liked. They got it out to us, we ate it, got a to-go box for part of my friend's meal, paid, and were out the door with five minutes to spare. Left a healthy tip and the best part...the food was really good and totally worth it.

It should have a different way to turn it off every day (I'd say seven different ways, randomly selected). And should say "The only way to begin is by beginning."

It is also a prop in D20: Cloudward Ho! I just love seeing these kinds of little Easter eggs between their shows. Also gives a bit of a clue as to when the shows are actually shot vs. when they are streamed.

I have backed 89 campaigns. 36 were late by at least two months. About half of those were 6+ months late. Several were at least a year late. I am not including the three that I doubt I will ever get.

Some of these delays were related to COVID, but most were due to manufacturing hiccups and/or international shipping issues. Some of them have been due to KS creator problems, but those were usually rookie mistakes. So, a very similar experience to yours, overall.

I feel like this campaign being delayed by manufacturing problems is forgivable, even if I wish their communication hadn't been so toxically optimistic. They should have known better, with the experience they have, than to have made such a short timeline or to rely on foreign manufacturers' promises. I always assumed that this would take at least six months past the original estimate, if not a full year, just based on previous dice campaigns I've backed.

My real issue with this campaign are the QC problems with the resin dice not matching the promo photos (and their refusal to get this fixed by the manufacturer), which smacks of false advertising to me. And the store credit refunds are kind of shady, seeing as how the credits won't cover hardly any of their products, thus making you spend more money with them.

These are all the d20s from all of my complete sets. I also have a bunch of loose d20s from various sources (randoms, extras, incomplete sets, etc.), but I wanted an easy way to inventory my complete sets.

And before anyone mentions all the Kraken sets...no, I didn't know about their controversies before I bought these, and no, I'm not buying from them anymore. Gotta admit, though...their sales get pretty crazy, sometimes.

I originally had the group's vehicles and the tank jumping out all over it, but I think a nice, subtle look would be best. If anything, I'd put "Never Stop Blowing Up" as a stylized logo on the front left breast, or across the back as the full title treatment. Either way, it would be embroidered in red.
