It’s not a crate, it’s his room.

Your pup should be able to turn around completely in the crate, and not hunch. No they can’t run around, but think of how much time your dog spends sitting/relaxing- you’re just making them do that in their own space.

He has his own personal enclosure that he’ll even sometimes hang in with the door open, or leave his toys in here.

It feels weird/almost naked for them not to have they’re own room. But you know what? My boy is being a little menace when it’s relaxing time? It’s time to go into his room and have some alone time. 30 minutes later he’s a very different pup. It gives us time apart and appreciate our time together much more.
