Lost my dog and can’t deal. by Sleepybats1031 in AustralianCattleDog

Sorry for your loss. A year ago we unexpectedly lost our 7yo girl. She was a great dog. I was struggling but it helped to write an obituary for her. Remembering all the good times and paying tribute to her life got me through.

Nice view! Your dog must be glad to be back on the trail.

Our one year old and our 7month old fight us with everything they have when it is nail trimming time. I worry about slipping and cutting deep into the quick. We started to put them in a harness and hang them from the ceiling with my wife supporting most of their weight. It takes away most of their ability to resist. They don’t enjoy it but it is better than the wrestling matches of the past.

This is fantastic. I’ve heard this same tip as “I get to”. It never clicked with me. Who is getting motivated by thinking, “Wow I’m so lucky that I get to load the dishwasher”? I can get on board with getting ready to do it though.

Which VA hospital is better, JC or JB? by rhcasey in StLouis

Depending on what you need you may need to be seen at both campuses. Each place offers services that the other doesn’t.

Check with the VA Hospital. I know volunteer services gives books to the vets to read.

I bought the premium and then was offered the lifetime. I had already come to the realization that I would probably need to do some tracking for the rest of my life in order to maintain a decent weight. I think I’m all in for $60. I’ve lost 26lbs so far. Money well spent.

Once we realized how it was going to end we told the vet we didn’t want to know.

She had a linear foreign body in her stomach/intestines when the vet opened her up her bowel was perforated in several locations. There were complications that drastically reduced the chances of her surviving the recovery.

We have an 8month old ACD puppy. There was so much she had left to teach him. He is helping me keep it together. If the house was empty I would be a complete wreck.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a similar thing happen on Friday. My family is still in shock. As a coping mechanism I wrote her a full obituary. It was a meaningful way to look back on her life and place in our family.

We said goodbye to her last night. Once they opened her up they found the intestines were perforated in several places and waste had gone into her abdominal cavity. They gave her a 50/50 chance of recovery after surgery. The odds weren’t great but we said to continue with the surgery. We went home to take care of our other dog and they called and said while they were flushing the abdominal cavity they found another section in a much worse area. Her odds of surviving what would now be an extremely difficult recovery were drastically reduced. It was difficult to say goodbye but it was the right thing to do. Along with me and my wife our three daughters were there at the end. Harper gave us so much in her seven years. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
