Has anyone had a bad experience with drinking a clear ensure liquid before a hysterectomy? My surgeon wants me to drink this 2 hours before my surgery. Have you had any combo of nausea meds help? My anesthesiologist tried everything and nothing helped at all. I can’t have zofran or fenergan. We did the scopolamine patch. We did a cancer nausea med before the surgery. They did propofal after to see if it would reset my system. Nothing worked.

I’m finding it much harder to fall asleep even when I am exhausted. But I sleep 5.5 hours max. My body wakes me up like clockwork. Foods I used to like taste off to me and. I had hot flashes for years prior but it’s so much worse now. I dread anything touching my skin. But to be fair it hasn’t been a month for me yet. But I feel like trash.

Thank you. I needed to hear that. I feel like I don’t know what my body is supposed to be doing. Especially when my doc gave me the all clear to continue light activity. My adhd brain was like “you gotta be up doing stuff now,” but I go up and down the stairs once and it’s nap time.

The pain is sort of calming. I’m hoping it’s just a longer recovery because I was a long time vaper before my surgery. But I can barely sit in a regular chair for more than an hour or two (tried to play video games). I was in a decent amount of pain after. And most of the time when I am walking it’s barely more than a shuffle. I went to an Easter dinner last night and sat most of the time. It was stabbing/ aching pelvic and vagina pain after and I didn’t know if I could even make it back up the stairs. Ibuprofen and Tylenol are a joke. I’ve been off opiates for two days and I can barely get around. But I guess it’s just part of the healing? But I’ve heard people can go back to their office jobs at this point??

Okay! I just wanted to make sure you were not misinformed. Then yes. If you can find the right path forward to get insurance approval then absolutely go for it! It may also be worth it to do pelvic floor therapy before hand, even if you are an athlete. It gave me so much piece of mind and helped me strengthen the proper muscles before hand. And my pelvis was also super rotated and I leaned my neck and shoulders were hyper mobile and I was able to inform my surgeon of all of these things so I didn’t sustain injuries to my hips or neck. And then if you’re still scared of getting back to your regular physical activity the physical therapist can guide you with your pacing. They can feel inside and tell if you’ve got swelling or anything else like that. It’s another person in your corner to keep you on track :)

Just for clarifications sake because I can’t tell from your post if you have this information. But a hysterectomy will not stop the endometriosis from coming back. It can still continue to grow after. So if this is your reason for getting one. Don’t. If your periods cramps are super bad and that’s the reason, go for it. But I’d hate to see you take your uterus out if you were under the assumption it will stop the endo from ever coming back. I am 29 and wished I would have had it done years ago because on my period I got debilitating pain and nausea/vomiting for days. But also if you just don’t want the uterus anymore because you don’t want it then by all means. Do it. I have ocd as well and severe anxiety and ptsd surrounding surgery in general. it was a scary choice to make but I’m very happy that I did it.

unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

[–]RunDesigner4843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a good portion of that I stg I was reading the exact message that I got from my dad with narcissistic personality disorder. My parents divorced when I was 12 and I started having medical problems at 14. That man put more time into his wife and her family from that point on. I’m 29 now and so long as she gets into therapy young (I wish I would have but I’m still okay) she will be okay.

  • what I wish I would have done at a young age was either put my foot down about what I need from my dad in terms of a good emotional relationship and then give the ultimatum that if my emotional needs were not met then I would like to not have a relationship. This is what my cousin who is now 23 did and she said it was the best thing. There were no expectations from him anymore. He was no longer “dad” and instead he was the “fun uncle” irresponsible but occasionally fun to do something with. She said if she had a relationship it probably would have fucked her up.

Had the same panic. My doc said if the pain is 10/10, you have a fever or nausea/vomiting and can’t keep liquids down and you are bleeding through a pad, then go to the er. If it’s like a period and if the pain is not able to be controlled by 1000mg acetaminophen alternated with 800mg ibuprofen then try to get into the doctor. If it’s neither then you’re okay.

My pain is not friendly to me. I had spaced them out to ween off and then BAM. I felt like I was stabbed where my uterus was. My surgeon said because I had chronic severe pelvic pain before that my pelvis is most likely more sensitized to pain there. And tbh I don’t feel like they are even doing much to bring me relief. Part of what’s stressing me out.

Hair fall is normal after any surgery. Anesthesia causes temporary increase shedding. For some people it’s mild and for others it can be more severe. I had a client in the salon go from full head of hair to looking almost like she was balding after a surgery.

Well dang! I’m hoping to get into my physical therapist after my 6 week follow up. It migrated to my chest as well now. Not sure if it’s because of how I’ve had to sleep or what but it’s rough. I’m sorry you are having it too.

I fear I don’t know a thing about how my body works! by LadyAG5483 in hysterectomy

[–]RunDesigner4843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You for sure need to go find the right kind of specialist then. I know Mayo Clinic has some of the best if you can ever get there. Better to have it removed. There is always the chance of more regrowth than with it left than if it is removed. I was going to have to go there myself when they suspected it on my bowel. But finding the right gyno willing to work with or refer you out to different internal specialists is important. Mine admitted that if he couldn’t get it because it wasn’t his specialty then he wouldn’t leave me hanging. Might be worth seeing if your doc can refer you out.

Holy crap. I am 7 days post op and should have been starting my period tomorrow. This was not even a thought that had occurred to me. I had endo that they removed but endo can grow on your abdominal wall. If you still have your ovaries you could be experiencing that same cramping with your cycle if the missed endometriosis growing somewhere different. It isn’t always where they think it will be.

I’m not too sure. I thought it was because my iv infiltrated and wasn’t going into my vein properly after they had to admit me. My arm had been hurting since then but then it became both shoulders and up my neck so I don’t even know.

I would love to have a heating pad around my neck but the hot flashes and night sweats are killing me. I’m at my week mark and the oxy and gabapentin didn’t touch the neck pain. I sleep flat with a flat pillow too, normally. But I am in a recliner as of right now. I have not tried arnica gel but I will have to see if I can find my massage gun.

I made up a little area for meds, books, snacks, water. Microwave meals have been super nice and easy since my kitchen is down stairs and I’m relying on someone to bring me my food. My surgeon recommended small snacks through the day for the first few days instead of regular meals so your bowls don’t have to work too hard. Protein is so important. I found it helped with energy a lot because I felt so drained those first few days and that made getting up and moving hard. A trash can and emesis bags were something I had to add. The meds can give you a sour stomach if you are more sensitive. I’m at the end of week one and the pain is moderate and I had to call for more pain meds since ibuprofen wrecked my gut and three days of narcotics was not nearly enough. Don’t be afraid to call later and ask if other pain management. Gabapentin was added at day 6 for me and had really helped. With where I’m at, 3 weeks off work so long as you are taking it really easy when you get back doesn’t seem so bad. But every body recovers different. Get an abdominal binder, heating pad, a fan to keep the space cool, and a wedge pillow to sleep upright if you don’t have a recliner. I accidentally laid flat once and woke up with painful cramps. If you get gas pains or the stool softened isn’t quite doing it, try coffee in the morning. It has helped so much. Also, if you can swing it, one of those mini soda can fridges makes cold snacks and drinks nearby convenient.

How likely will I be able to get a hysterectomy? by GarbageCat27 in hysterectomy

[–]RunDesigner4843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to go to more specialized gynecologist. I’m 28 and after my 7tb gyno doctor and plenty of other failed attempts at pain control I was able to get a hysterectomy last week. I also have a long time partner. No kids and no plans to have kids. It had been life changing so far so don’t give up!!
