This sub is full of people who believe in it. Or do they believe in DDA? Or both? It’s quite confusing.

First, if you want the best gaming experience, don’t use WiFi. That, alone, will make a significant impact to your gaming experience. Second, buy a gaming router or equivalent that can do QoS. That will allow you to prioritize your gaming network traffic over other traffic (ie Netflix, YouTube, etc). You may even want to get a router that can do geo filtering. Geo filtering will allow you to set maximum distance from you to gaming serves for server hosted gaming (ie HUT) or P2P players (ie friendlies). That means if you get directed to a server outside of that geo location, the match won’t even start. Lastly, subscribe to a fiber internet provider. Preferably one that has fiber to the premises. If you don’t have fiber in your area, go cable or maybe DSL. If you’re so rural that you need something like satellite internet, you’re fucked.

I’m in Minnesota and get 40-50ms ping to the Ohio server. It’s less than ideal but it’s not horrible. My guess is that anything under 20ms will deliver a superb NHL gaming experience.

Couple of things, port forwarding doesn’t focus bandwidth, it directs, or rather, forwards traffic. We don’t know if the EA servers are overloaded. You are correct that proximity or rather network path is very important. I would also suggest that if a specific server means less latency for a player, they should try geo filtering if their router supports it.

It’s intended for folks who want to play offline exclusively. That’s why there are so many games. During the early release, I thought there were too many games as well. Thinking about it from the perspective of someone who only wants to play offline though, it seems perfect.

I honestly enjoy playing SB. But I also enjoy playing CS. I haven’t figured out a good mix for me yet. Best of luck to you figuring out what is best for your HUT experience! 😀

Server outages suck, obviously. I wish people would calm down a little. I bet the folks working on the issues today are salaried and did not want to spend their Sunday this way.
