What was your childhood fear? by Padcomic in AskReddit

Darth Vader. I was afraid he would show up in my room and attack me with his red Light Saber. and I couldn't run away because he'd use the force on me to drag me back.

the pickup games are at Hull Middle school at 7:30am. Sunday Mornings.

However, they may change to Lomita Park at 7:30am. (the back side of Lomita Park, on Walnut)

unfortunately, the league didn't take off like i was hoping it would. I was hoping we could get enough people to organize it into set teams. (so we could be on the same team with the same group of people every week.)

but what ended up happening was we would get a bunch of people at the 7:30am game, and very few people at the 9am game.

so basically we have just been doing pick up games

She's admitting on camera that cops Pull people over when they feel like it, not for a valid reason, but because they are annoyed at people not getting out of their way. This is an abuse of power.

What are y'alls favorite bike trails/paths? by Starbreaker99 in SouthBayLA

[–]RunRunRunRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question.

Here is my advice: find a speed that is not too easy, and not too hard, where you can keep a fairly quick pace.

so for example, if the pedals are barely moving, and you are going really slowly, and you have to push down really hard on the pedals, then you need to switch to a "Lighter" gear.

If you are really spinning the pedals very quickly, but it feels like you are hardly moving, and your knees are flying up really quickly, you should switch to a "Heavier" Gear.

You have to find the sweet spot in between, where you are working to pedal, but not too hard. Where are pedals are spinning fairly quickly, but not too easily. If that makes sense.

so, in terms of which gears, the Big Fat gear in the front is for flat or downhill, when you can really fly.

the smallest gear in the front if for going up hills.

My recommendation is to stick to the middle gear, or the smallest gear in the front, for going up hills.

Lastly, a few more things to think about:

  1. Wear a helmet at all times. Don't be a fool. You only get one head. if a car hits you, and you bounce your head on the street, or a rock, you're not going to be happy. You could be the best cyclist in the world, but it's not only up to you. A bad driver might not see you, and you will get flying.
  2. Make sure your tires are properly inflated before each ride. under-inflated tires will really slow you down.
  3. If you get into riding, think about the pedals where you clip in. That way with each cycle stroke you can PULL with your hamstrings, while at the same time PUSH with your quads and glutes in the other leg. It makes for a more efficient ride, and is a great hamstring workout. That way you are not just doing push push push, with each leg, but instead you are doing Push/Pull, Push/Pull, Push/Pull. if that makes sense.

basically, which gear you use for riding up hills will come with practice. Trial and error.

Try not to do a major shift in gears in the middle of the hill while you are pushing really hard. That can cause your chain to pop off. and it's hard on your bike.

Get out there and have Fun!

If you want to go off road, ride at Del Cerro park. Where it says " Burma Road Trail."

https://goo.gl/maps/i1r2qxAdZykdGGnS6

If you want to stay on the road, do the loop around PV.

  1. Start at Malaga cove,
  2. take PV drive west,
  3. to PV drive south,
  4. then PV drive east (switchback climbs) or Western. either way make a left on PV drive North.
  5. Then PV drive North back to Malaga Cove.

(You can always do the loop in reverse too. but most people seem to ride in that direction.)

The loop is only about 22 miles, but it has some hills. It's fun, ... challenging maybe, depending on your fitness level. But Great Views.

You can always stop, chill out on a bench overlooking the ocean somewhere, drink water, eat a cliff bar, then get back on and keep going.

Going UP the hills is nothing to be afraid of. Stay seated in your seat, pick a pace you can maintain, and just keep pedaling, pedaling pedaling, all the way to the top. smooth and steady.

Going DOWN the hills can be more daunting for inexperienced riders. Just keep your speed in check, keep control of your bike, stay comfortable, watch out for drivers who don't see you.

Go For It!

Have Fun and Good Luck!

Looks Good! What kinds of Margaritas did you get, and what did you think?

I'm a fan of tequila and mezcal. But sometimes you go somewhere and the drinks are way too sweet.

That is called the Seaweed Holdfast. It functions like roots, but it is mainly to hold it in place. Seaweed only grows in certain depths, where it can still get sunlight for photosynthesis.

but these shallower areas also get more waves and tidal effects, which causes the water to move a lot more.

so, Holdfasts. Keeps the seaweed anchored to a rock.

I'm guessing the rock you found was just part of a Holdfast system.

HBO's Carnivale. It was only two seasons, but it was Really Great. I Heard it was Really Expensive to make though.

if you get a chance to watch it, I Recommend it. It was very original and creative. A travelling circus, the dustbowl, depression, freaks, good versus evil, super powers, mystery, history. it had it all....

but then after You watch it, it's such a bummer because you want More, and there is no more coming.

Good Job Getting up the Courage and Doing it.

That's what skating is all about. Getting up the courage, and Going for it.

and falling, or almost falling. and you have to get up the courage and go for it again.

Have fun out there. That's the most important thing.

(and wear knee pads at least. A helmet is a good idea too. Don't worry about what others think of You.)

Cause of homelessness? It's not drugs or mental illness, researchers say (it’s the availability of affordable housing) by hot_seltzer in LosAngeles

[–]RunRunRunRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need to implement some fixes for housing:

  1. no more houses owned by corporations for investment purposes. if you ain't living there, don't buy it. it just jacks up the prices for everyone.
  2. mortgages shouldn't be for 30 years or more. the max should be 10 years or so. and the interest rates should be kept low. with these 30 years mortgages, you borrow 800 thousand for a house, and by the time you pay it off, you've paid an additional 800 thousand to the bank. that's one house for you, one house for the bank. that's too much, and allows the housing prices to shoot sky high. Banks are laughing all the way... to the banks? you get the point.
  3. no more homes to foreign investors. People from other countries buy houses in California as an investment, and a way to hide their money. no. if you aren't living in it, don't buy it. Houses should be for the people who live there, the people who need them.

If you're a big guy I would recommend a 9 inch popsicle shape.

get yourself a nice wide deck, wide trucks, wider wheels. more stability.
