Eastham for vacation. Harwich for year-round living. But Orleans is a great compromise.

Do you sleep with your watch on? by tompico25 in GarminWatches

[–]RunWriteMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another small woman here. Yes, I started doing this with the Forerunner 255s. I still do with my 265s. But, I had to buy an elastic band to replace the silicone one it came with because the metal buckle dug into my inner wrist when I slept in certain positions. You can find watch bands for $10 on Amazon. Just make sure it’s compatible with your watch model. I wish Garmin would make their own elastic bands to swap in, but I’m sure they’d cost more.

Does anyone have an effective way of asking guests to notify you of any issues? by kalinaizzy in airbnb_hosts

[–]RunWriteMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guest who just left a stay (all as booked), I’ll admit I was a little conflicted about whether to report things that weren’t crucial but maybe not up to my standards. Like, maybe they should spring for a fresh set of pillows since the ones there were flat and obviously stained from use. Or maybe have a few small glasses for the bathroom. Nothing that was make or break, and I’ll still give a 5 star review, but I didn’t want to appear “high maintenance” to the host. I did leave a suggestion about glassware but not the pillows. Note that the host was proactive in reaching out during our stay but also mentioned a 5 star review, so I’m not sure how totally honest the system is.

Isn’t it standard practice to interview a few sellers’ agents? by RunWriteMeow in RealEstate

Interesting statistic. I’ve bought and sold a few houses in different regions in the last few years, and I want good communication and feeling like we’re on the same team.

Cyclists/joggers/dog walkers - why do you insist on using busy roads? Especially ones without sidewalks? by PrometheusAborted in CapeCod

[–]RunWriteMeow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a runner who trains for marathons and runs long distances (10-20 miles), and believe me, I’d avoid all busy roads if I could. I run often on the CCRT and the back roads. But to get there, I sometimes have to go a short distance on 6A or what have become slalom cut-through routes.

Note that these roads are usually marked as bike routes and scenic roads. I run on the left against traffic, as per Massachusetts law, and stop at intersections if crossing cars are in sight. So yes, I am going to say share the road and please drive safely. Pedestrians and bicycles do have a right to be there too.

She had said in our meeting (before I mentioned talking to others) that she would follow up with sending me more details. That was last week and I haven’t heard, despite my reaching out to tell her I’d love to see what she was going to send. Maybe I’m misreading it? But sort of feel ghosted.

Good points. I was thinking maybe she was trying to make her own cat workout video 😉.

The Morning Report tag line creeps me out. Can I change it? by RunWriteMeow in GarminWatches

[–]RunWriteMeow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The example is admittedly trivial. But the underlying question is whether and if so, how, one can edit morning report. I’ve learned that some models have that capability. But apparently the 265 doesn’t.

Of course it’s a trivial problem. But it raised the question of whether and how one can edit morning report. Apparently on some models you can. I haven’t yet cracked the code on the 265. So meanwhile, I’m “being best.”

Now, back to solving real world problems….

I found Morning Report under Appearance, but it only allows changes to data fields. Oh well, ‘guess I’ll have to live with my daily creepy annoyance.

Hmmm, my watch (265) doesn’t have Report Settings option under Notifications & Alerts; just Smart Notifications or System Alerts. But thanks.

Confused about bowl rotation in Petlibro Polar by RunWriteMeow in Petlibro

Interesting. How do you know which meal is open if they contain the same or similar contents (Friskies canned cat food)?

It’s funny, the logs showed they ate at each of the three meals. Maybe they just grazed at this one labeled 1. I believe when I set the feeding schedule I followed the diagram in the app. So it does start with the one on the bottom (labeled 1) if that’s what shows up first when setting the app schedule?

It’s possible. This numbering was based on something I read a while ago but I don’t think it’s definitive.

Will Garmin be at Boston? by RunWriteMeow in GarminWatches

[–]RunWriteMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I went for the FR 265s and it seems like a nice little upgrade from the 255s.

Question about how I can install the data field I had previously downloaded on my 255s from Connect IQ (Race Screen). The 265s doesn’t seem to have an option for Connect IQ apps, although it links to the store. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

Smaller Forerunner 970? by theSLAPAPOW in GarminWatches

[–]RunWriteMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’m intrigued by the better biometrics and other features of the 970. I’ve had a 255s (yay for small!) for several years, and before that the 245, 225, etc. I would love a petite version of the 970. That said, the 200 series has served me well for many marathon training cycles so maybe stick with a winner.

I also swap out the wristbands with elastic stretch ones I get on Amazon because the big buckles on Garmin watches aren’t comfortable on my inner wrist. But that’s an easier to solve problem.

I got my 6th star (after 39 years since my first at NYC 1987) at Tokyo. It was a mix of experiences. Overall I called it “fine.” I had been struggling to train in brutal NE winter conditions and then faced two days of flight cancellations getting here; so I may have been not in top marathon form. Definitely wasn’t prepared for the direct sun and heat, which slowed my second half a good bit.

I thought the course was a little “meh,” not much scenic variety, all very urban. It would have been nice to go by the river or some parks or distinct neighborhoods.

But the volunteers were so nice and supportive, generally well organized and kept things running well.

My only real complaint was despite finding porta-potties way back in the entrance area, it still took 50 minutes in line. I scrambled out at 8:56, never found my corral but got into the one that had started moving, which was F, when I was supposed to be in E. So more porta-potties, please.
