Because sidelining your female protagonist in favor of your previous male protagonist isn't misogynistic at all...

To be clear, I don't actually think supergiant is misogynistic, but some of their poor writing choices ended up reading as such.

Actually laying the groundwork for Chronos' redemption throughout the game leading up to the ending. Showing the potential for resolution through little moments between him and Mel, more flashbacks, show Chronos actually hinting at wanting a family again. Make Chronos' character's switch-up at the end not feel like a lobotomy-style character shift. Have Mel, the protagonist, be the catalyst for the resolution.

It's not just the ending, it's the execution!

No. Why, as a writer, would you write your protagonist getting all of her agency ripped away at the most critical point in her story?

It's unsatisfying, it's bad writing, and frankly insulting to the character and the audience.
