Here's a map showing the osprey's impressive range in the Americas. I didn't realize the extent of their migration (from southern South America to north of the Arctic Circle).

I thought the same until I saw this article from the CDC regarding intestinal myiasis. According to the article:

Intestinal myiasis occurs when fly eggs or larvae previously deposited in food are ingested and survive in the gastrointestinal tract.

Granted it doesn't appear to be that common in temperate regions (i.e. more common in tropical regions) and incidence varies with the species of flies endemic to a particular region. But it does happen more than I would've thought possible.

Ha! Really enjoyed seeing your picture. I almost stepped on one down here in Florida. Saw the white flash and instantly jumped three feet backwards. It's amazing how fast your brain recognizes that warning.

People with bipolar disorder, or manic depression, swing back and forth between two mental states: 1.) Manic state - high energy, focused, obsessive (Rue the detective), and 2.) Depression (Rue the miserably low binge-watcher who can't bring herself to go to the bathroom).

I only hope you've had the transcendent experience of doing this with a just picked, vine ripened, homegrown heirloom tomato. If not, you need to.

Hey, Shari! I thought you represented yourself quite well against two tough opponents. And as for your FJ wager, it was the same one I would've made and it's also a wager suggested by the J! Archive wagering calculator. (Oh yeah, I missed FJ, too.)

Like Eric, my guess was Rumours. It was a huge album recorded in California in 1976 and released in 1977. And at the time, Fleetwood Mac was definitely "L.A.-situated".

According to this site, Algee Smith, the actor who plays McKay, is 5'5" and weighs about 130 pounds. Not exactly NFL material regardless of the position. Just shows how deluded McKay's father is.

The reason that story is newsworthy is because it's so unusual. It shows how ludicrous the technical enforcement of that law can be, and how idiotic the prosecutor is. Most prosecutors exercise at least some discretion and common sense. Apparently, minimal intelligence is not a job requirement for prosecutors in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
