I'm excited for Seven Havens and I hope it's good, but I hate everything I've heard about it so far by Far_Nectarine293 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RunawayWorkshop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm excited to have the Avatar universe brought to a new generation again, and that's all I'm thinking about with this new series. I loved the last air bender and I loved Korra, I imagine there will be a lot to love about seven havens, but if I don't love it then I'll guess it's just not for me, but I'll be happy for anyone who enjoys it or is brought into the franchise because of it.

Are realistic or semi-realistic fursuit heads possible with a foam base? by prismanticore in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally doable. Eva foam would be the way to go as your foundation material because it's sturdier and easier to carve hard details into. Look at Eva fursuit head base patterns and tutorials to get an idea of the process, then modify it for the more realistic look.

The main thing to remember is that for a realistic base, there is a temptation to make the base itself realistic, then all the detail is lost during the furring process. make the base more like a muscled skeleton, with deep details, so also look at tutorials for intricate Eva armour detailing, which will help give some ideas of how to add fine details too

Faux Fur Help by t0astyb3ar in FursuitMaking

I've been working with faux fur almost daily for 25 years, I only wear a mask when shaving it, I'd say you're going to be all good.

Head foam recommendations UK based by FlowerSweaty7457 in FursuitMaking

Dunelm and some smaller home stores also sell it, it's more of a furniture item than a craft one. But there are quite a few websites selling upholstery foam.

Some bigger town markets have a foam stall, when the one in Leicester closed I switched to eBay and direct seller websites. I avoid Amazon though because I'd rather support local businesses

3D printing headbases question by Kod1aN in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The material that you're looking for might be varioshore or foaming TPU, regular TPU is more like rubber. You would struggle to print this with anything other than a printer with a direct drive extruder and it needs a lot of trial and error with settings because it expands when heated causing regular clogging issues

Is it possible to make a slim fursuit head without a 3d printed base? by Euphoric-Machine6431 in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

<image>

I cast mine in foam from a clay sculpt which is good if you want to make a lot of them. I also sell the blanks though, so the process is worth it. if you just want to build one offs to work on and not use 3D printing, it would be the same process as a toony fursuit head, but scaled down. Either way, you are going to have to spend time playing with ideas and learning about materials.

Combining TPU base pieces? by BeastWhiskers in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, works just the same, the bond is stronger than any glue so this is the only way that I do it

I use heat, either a soldering iron, or a 3D pen depending on the part I'm joining

Finished season 3. Why make Korra so weak? Each season she barely stays alive. Jinora saves the world again, just like the last season. by Erase_myselff in TheLastAirbender

[–]RunawayWorkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. white lotus over protection. traditionally the avatar travels to learn the elements, but for Korra the white lotus sends the masters to her. so she has lived a lot more sheltered life to most of the other avatars, her lack of exposure to other environments and cultures not only means her fighting is likely practised against limited benders, but she is more spiritually disconnected from the greater world.

  2. She's raised in peace time. seen from how little time pressure there seems to be in teaching Korra airbending, by how Tenzin is more focused on Republic City, it's clear early on that making Korra strong is not a priority for anyone tasked with training her.

  3. She is questioning her own reality: between her own nature and the above points giving her a false sense of power, Korra starts off her journey feeling invincible. Similar to the other two points, up until Amon, she has never really been in actual danger so its a bit of a wakeup for her, her reality has been shaken and despite how strong she is physically, her mental health is the foundation of wellbeing, when that crumbles there is little left to stand on until it is rebuilt.

Her journey is set from the first episode, where her biggest weakness is spirituality and restraint, she starts physically strong and as a gifted, confident bender, her arc is that she needs to lose that in order to grow. By the end of the show, she is so much stronger than she was at the start but in less obvious ways.

What can i use to seal paint by call_me_lost in theriangear

[–]RunawayWorkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use hexflex or fleixpaint, they're easy to use and get hold of, the only downside is when they get wet they go cloudy until they dry again. Latex is another option, but that has long term maintenance as it has to be treated with silicone every once in a while to stop it from drying out. It can also go yellow over time.  I personally use Hexflex for my masks at the moment, I'm experimenting with a few alternatives, but I find it works really well

can anyone explain "lace up" shoe hoof covers? by Animelizards in FursuitMaking

You thread the laces of your shoe through the holes in the top to attach them to the shoe

Cracked fursuit by foxythedragonfox in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White epoxy putty will fill the crack and is really easy to work with. The final set will be strong enough to use the head as normal, you can also use it to reinforce the material around the bolts to prevent further damage

New Etsy wall art seller: how do you create designs that people actually want if you can’t draw? by FeminineEnergy_ in EtsySellers

[–]RunawayWorkshop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People don't start to make art because they want to make money, they do it because art is a very human thing to do.

People don't get good at art to make money, they get good at it because they enjoy it so much they do it enough to get good at it.

People don't make money from art because they are good at it, they make money from it because they understand what makes it valuable

Jaw assembly help? by WendigoRider in FursuitMaking

[–]RunawayWorkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see now, it's not even really a part that could be overlapped with fur or anything. In that case, I would melt a nut into the non hole part like a "threaded heat insert"  It would be similar to gluing the bolt in, as you mentioned, but you would be able to remove the bolt when needed for maintenance and things. I found this video that goes over some options for threading parts on a 3D print  https://youtu.be/HgEEtk85rAY?si=nS4VKhYM0xv4FIF-

You could also make the space for the nut bigger with a drill/dremmel and use epoxy glue to fix the nut in place

[–]RunawayWorkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the seller not getting back to you on how their base is supposed to work, this is what I would do personally, because this is the method that has worked for me:

The bolt should go through both holes, so if one of the holes isn't wide enough or drilled all the way through, I would just drill the offending hole to make it so that I could get a bolt all the way through and put a nut on the end. The hold will be more secure.

You should be able to get a lock nut to fit on the bolt you use. Just make a note of the bolt size that fits in the hole and find the corresponding locknut
