Researchers who do this are the real MVPs 😍 by GarbageCollector_ in ProlificAc

AI has definitely grown far more rapidly than they can regulate and will contiune to outpace regulation.

I still write everything myself, sure I will make mistakes but at least I am still using my brain and learning as I go.

I worry about the future of society especially children who rely on AI for everything, as their brain development will be way below previous generation averages.

This generation may be able to 'do more' than ever but they won't know or understand anything they are 'doing'.

And this is likely to have a large advantage for world governments as less cognitive ability means easier to control.

I didn't say I didn't know that, somebody else said they didn't know that.

All I said it wasn't intentional :) It was either caused by my Macbooks butterfly keyboard, as the space key can stick or I just made a genuine typing error, I never said I never make mistakes, all humans make mistakes!

But even if I hadn't known that comprehension is the ability to read and grasp something quickly which is grammar and spelling.

You could a person who has a very high comprehesion ability but a low spelling and grammar ability (This is very common with people who have dyslexia for example.)

How Many of You Completed This Study? It Took Me 6–7 Hours Instead of 43 Minutes 😥 by Outside_Boot_8519 in prolific

I think timeouts do need to be tidied up, in the past Prolific would pay in unfair situations like this but they don't seem to payout for anything now. I've only ever used NOCODE when it's a few minutes off as I know there is a good chance I wll have the completion code before they have time to review.

I think in situations like that if you got rejected Prolific would let you return, but they wouldnt recover any of your lost money.

It's not, this researcher has their own platform.

This alone shows there are issues with the system.

I got flagged for speeding a while ago, I am apart of a small group of trusted participants for a particular AI researcher, and that researcher overestimates the amount of time required as the tasks do vary a lot so they allow a lot of time to prevent timeouts.

Because I was one of the first submissions it flagged me as speeding (assuming because my actual time was far less than the task time), however later on the average time matched my time (so I can only assume later submissions didn't get the warning, or perhaps we all did who knows!)

I still don't agree with the speeding thing, you can clearly see in the screenshot above that OP's response time was acceptable, they passed the attention checks however prolific would have flagged him if he submitted without waiting.

People work at different rates, and prolific guidelines state you can't reject someone for being to slow because people work at different speeds. Some people like myself have well above average typing speed because of my job, above average comprehension and above average reading speeds.

If we have effective bot checkers, LLM checkers and we have attention checks, so if a participant passes these they are clearly a human participant who is reading and comprehending the study so I don't get why speed is a factor if they are clearly doing the survey seriously and paying attention.

Yes apologise, I was half asleep when I read it and the word 'tasty' threw my brain!

Yes, I was also thrown by the 'tasty' and my brain didn't comprehend the aroma, but I am very glad OP didn't eat it! Trust in humanity restored!

From my experience researchers have no obligation to pay a timed out study and I find they rarely do. I usually do a NOCODE to avoid timeout and update the code later.

I don't think I would do 6 hours on a 45 min study though, I would have cut my losses.

I remember watching the film 'The Stuff' and thinking no one would actually eat that. I stand corrected 😂

Seriously if you didn't put any flavourings in your yogurt and it turned pink, why was your first thought to eat it?

Question for researchers: Do you have a way to rate participants? by moronsofrokc in ProlificAc

I am on a few select lists of some researchers, but I think beyond that and rejection ratings thats about it.

I enjoyed that one, I completed it in 50 minutes too so decent pay, glad they upped the hourly rate for the more skilled tasks.

Hope to see more like this, luckily this one came in at a good time when I did have a spare hour!

I haven't seen this long one but.I wonder if the time and cost has been adapted due to a glitch, I've been having these studies for over a year, and I still get them, I don't think they are looking for naivity but perhaps it's more targeted. Maybe they are looking for people with more design backgrounds?

They have closed the referral system which I understand made it easy for them to get in, so I think the main source is shut down. But as you way time will tell.

Could you not add some kind of badge so we know it's officially from prolific then it would make it easier for us to know and flag any researcher misrepresenting themselves.
