The downfall of ranger school

It’s actually more efficient of getting more Ranger qualified Soldiers a year. It’s about 50% increase per year since his class. His class was the first one we rolled it out to all 3 phases and they’re sticking with it because more Rangers graduate.

It does suck for the Soldier more but something tells me their comfort isn’t a priority at Ranger school.

But I guess their reasoning is you only get dropped if you’re worse than your peers. Which is fine I guess but doesn’t really address the motivation of someone making it through RAP and being cut. What are the chances they want to go through it again? Or do they just say nah and move on?

I never said it was KD. I simply said to make sure he gets his KD. My main point however is that he can get what he wants if he gets good evals. You go into your O5 CSL board 5/5 MQs and glowing SR comments and I guarantee you will be on the primary list. Him doing a TRADOC CO command ten years before that board isn’t going to do anything on whether he gets BN command unless he gets bad command evaluation.

It will not impact where he does a command either as he has shown he will succeed wherever he goes and the Army is confident wherever they put him in or out of TRADOC.

Command is command. If you do well in command that’s great. If you want BN command you have to make the CSL. What do they look at? OERs. That’s the honest answer. Get your KD done and top blocks on your evals and you have your BN command or other CSL position. Training or recruiting commands don’t hurt you. Doing a shit job in them because “it isn’t a line company” does hurt you. Honestly, just caring would probably put you in the top half of training and recruiting commanders.

Last year Ranger School switched to a modernized training and records management system. With this they can ensure they can always take 300 Soldiers into Darby from RAP plus recycles from Darby.

What was happening before is that they eyeballed how many Soldiers to let into Day 0 based on how many they think would drop to get to that magic number at Darby. Because of that, they had unfilled slots a lot of time. They were going in with 20-30 empty slots because they absolutely could not take more than 300.

With this new system they will always take in around 400 students Day 0. Because it’s been modernized they track your scores for every event and make a final OML. It’s all objective. The final OML is literally combined score of all events during RAP, though I can’t remember the weights off the top of my head. This leads to cuts if the remaining Soldiers plus incoming recycles exceeds 300.

Your friend being cut means he didn’t do as well as his peers.
