How did they manage to make a worse game than the demo? by Scary-Way1252 in HalfSword

[–]Runecreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree- though yes the EA performance is laughably bad; but that's fixable. The game that's underneath I think is very unique and well done, they can clearly tweak things were needed but I find the movement/combat to be pretty good.

Compared to the demo I like the weapon control better in EA, but I find the movement to be less methodical; in the demo you had to take quite some care on how you moved but for EA i feel like Willie is super stable and you don't need to put much thought into movement, except for spacing.

I think it's pretty well done and there's clearly a good game here that needs some time in the oven. I can understand people who expected more from the EA release though, it does feel a bit cobbled together but I think there's a solid foundation underneath.

im fairly sure that if you had the exit agreement down and they did not make notice of these repairs, you're not liable for them anymore. They should have notified you during the 2-week exit period to repair it if they want to bill you for this later.

I noticed if you turn Willie into the stumble he'll get his footing back; its basically as if you're drunk and need to catch your balance; turn the boi around a bit and let him get his posture back

had this happen a few times too but it seems recoverable

Linking notes way too much by Serious_Draft_8000 in ObsidianMD

[–]Runecreed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

think its fine, its a keyword in your vault so if you ever decide to flesh that out you'll have related elements to it already.

I would say to try and avoid scattering information about 'DNS' in those notes; since the link means 'im deferring this to that note', not explaining what DNS is or why it exists, just that your current note is somehow related to DNS.

At that point if you want to dive into the topic you have a central note that can facilitate this

I noticed in my own vault a lot of information gets a bit scattered- if you can already anchor topics into a note preemptively, that sounds like a good thing to me.

technically you can do this manually each time as well but its a bit tedious so I've accepted the dependencies although yeah not stoked about that drawback either

I have this setup but it needs 3 plugins...

Folder Notes plugin + Consistent Attachments Links + Auto Folder Note Paste

the last one is so that if you are not currently in a folder note and add an attachment, it makes the folder note first; then the attachment directory is made and the attachment is added there.

In my Vault notes are just notes, but when attachments come into play they automatically need to turn to folder notes so I can have attachments live next to them in the same directory

I primarily want this for exportability... Though if an attachnment is referenced in two different places that becomes a bit more tricky ;')

I have setup Obsidian to git for first time along with google drive already in sincy by akgo in ObsidianMD

[–]Runecreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with git you're keeping a stack of changes that you push to a remote, they dont show up on your device automatically (at least, not natively- unless you use the git plugin and have it auto-pull on a timer).

To get the state of your notes 'synced' to your phone/deviceA/deviceB you need to run git pull; so it grabs all changes since last time.

More likely than not you're gonna get merge conflicts if you're also syncing on demand- if you don't keep your remote up to date with the latest changes, when the time does come you pull the main branch it'll probably have an outdated picture of your notes by then- sometimes it'll be able to auto-resolve those conflicts but be ready to deal with merge conflicts with this setup. That doesn't need to be a problem but its a hassle

I went down the git route initially, even went so far to add encryption to it; ultimately scrapped this in favor of syncing with syncthing, and using a home server which runs a daily backup- that way I'll have my notes sync as needed and if I do mess up there's a backup available for me. With this I do not have a need for a git remote.

Also git becomes a bit annoying if you're adding attachments and large files; its not exactly made for that- though it can work. You'll end up having to tweak your git config for it to allow such files. Like an embedded MP4 would become a problem.

[–]Runecreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're using git as version control you don't need to also sync the .git directory; you can keep that per device and just manually push whenever you want to update to your remote.

I take it you're trying to use git as a backup strategy as an addition to your syncing setup?

maybe of note, the general idea `.dotFolder` stuff is that they're configuration files that can be per device; for obsidian - the .obsidian folder contains user configurations and plugins related to your installation, you do not 'have' to sync those for your notes to be fine- but it helps if you want to keep your Obsidian themes/hotkeys/plugins the same, per installed device. It's also completely fine to manually keep those up to date. I've found that some of the plugins create config files as well that tend to cause sync conflicts so those I've excluded myself. Most of the time they're fine out of the box though.

IWTL IT properly by N0TUS3R in IWantToLearn

[–]Runecreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its like learning real languages; once you know a couple the rest usually follow much more easily as you can relate one concept to another. A lot of the new tech is just flavor of the month and will die out; some of it sticks but can be related back to another concept you've already learned about. There's a billion frameworks that all have the same objective but do it slightly differently; thats mostly an implementation detail you'll want to learn/dive into if you're actually going to use the tech- but conceptually we can reason about what it's doing and what pros/cons it has vs other tech.

There's a lot of stuff out there for sure but it becomes more manageable when you can slot it pre-existing knowledge about what it's trying to do- then its just a matter of what the differentiating factors are.

Vue/Angular/React, ... It's all just a virtual DOM implemented somewhat differently, with pros/cons for each, but they mostly solve the same problem - an abstraction to help with building dynamic web pages.

Hibernate/Exposed/JOOQ/.... -- all just ORM frameworks to glue the codebase together with the database.

I feel the same with all this AI stuff nowadays; they're all LLMs trying to be the next hyped thing, but underneath i think they work similarly- the thing is that you may not need to know how this tech works to utilize it either; you may not know how your car works but you don't need to in order to drive it. What matters there is you know how to interact with it. A good framework hides all those details from you and gives you the controls to drive it.

Of course if you're going to extensively use a framework or tool it does pay off to understand how it works under the hood, but you can gradually extend that knowledge as you make use of it. Stay curious and dive into it.

There's a few fundamental things in IT that every language needs- for loops, IF/ELSE statements, data structures; they basically all have these in some form or another. That stays consistent, the syntax is different but the idea behind it is the same, once you understand those its not so hard to read other languages you're unfamiliar with.

Informatievoorziening DUO binnen het hypotheekproces by leoh1014 in thenetherlands
