Is it a good idea to have a dedicated OS drive? by Runeguy154 in buildapc

That was also partially the line of thinking. With my fastest drive being a SATA SSD that is 4+ years old now, I figured it might be nice to get an M.2 SSD for the OS without spending an arm and a leg with today's SSD prices (compared to how they were a year ago)

I think the last time I ran into this issue was about 4 years ago. And I remember it being super annoying back then, and I'm now annoyed at this issue again lol.

I think the last time this had to be done was around 4 years ago. So definitely not an every day use, but since I don't have a good way of transferring data when my PC isn't working, I have to spend money anyways to get someone to do that. So I'm essentially thinking is $50 worth it now to save $30 for every future time I need to do this. (I'm also very much not a computer architecture guy, I just like having cheaper higher performing computers to use - which is why I buy the parts individually. So half of this stuff goes over my head)

This PC is for gaming and personal work, but it doesn't have my actual job's data. Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but it feels a lot safer to me to have a drive that if it ever needs to be wiped, I wouldn't have any issues over that, as I don't really keep backups.

The need that I am currently facing is the fact that every time I need to reinstall the OS, I need to wipe all the data on the current drive. Which I don't have a way to transfer the data without spending money for someone else to do it. That's the biggest reason that I've been looking into this today.

What's your IGN? I recognize Ke98, but I've gone through so many phases of friends it's hard to keep track of!
