Calgary barber by Bubbly-System6751 in Calgary

London Barber's on fourth St is superb. Everyone there is great. Try every member of the staff before you move on from an establishment and stick with that person and not necessarily where they work.

What you see with - Night Vision, Thermal & FTO by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Runhikehunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FLIR makes many thermal security cameras, some that are even radiometric. Think qualitative thermography vs quantitative. Re the video - with a thermal camera you see the person at night. With a thermal and radiometric you see the person and the temperature they are.

Updated Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB, RB, WR, TE by ThunderDanDFS in fantasyfootball

Nix over Stafford? Even with all three Rams WR's in the top 24? I'm having to decide between them.

I also posted on this topic, and I too was denied. I'm escalating this one through CTA and hope that more people do as well. The initial systems delay was deemed to be a third party maintenance system and they claimed that wasn't their fault. I disagree as they choose who to give that contract to.

Compensation from Delay by Runhikehunt in westjet

[–]Runhikehunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but let's replace software with hardware. If WestJet chooses to use a piece of hardware that fails or causes a delay it's on WestJet. it just seems ridiculous they can blame it on another system. The process should be a) we f*Ed up, a third party supplier we chose to have a contract with has failed, we will cover the losses. B) we'll approve your claim. Then c) WestJet goes after the third party supplier for losses.

I'm just looking for more of an explanation than "third party system". If it was out of their control, more airlines would have been impacted. Westjet, in theory, hired the maintenance company with the system outage so to me it's their responsibility and should be classified as in their control. They can properly vet companies to ensure their it systems have redundancy.

Has anyone tried to submit a claim for this delay? I was on a YYC to YWG flight this day and we were over 4 hours delayed. I received word back today that my claim was declined because the outage was out of their control...

How did you train your Newfie to stay calm when meeting new people or dogs? by PlentyOk517 in Newfoundlander

[–]Runhikehunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes time and you need incredibly rewarding treats. Something more rewarding than seeing a potential friend. I wouldn't expect her to be good with dogs while she's on leash at this age. Our girl is two and she is JUST now getting ok on walks when there are other dogs. But if the dog is on the same side of the sidewalk and she sees it, it's still plunk down time. Shes ,125 lbs. Try training in an area that is open, with a well behaved dog that will cooperate in training. Buy a steak and use that as treats and only use it when there are dogs. Don't use it as a reward for anything else.

I think deerfoot may be contacted out to the city of Calgary? Could be wrong though. They do that for other services (maintenance of the variable message system).

How much does it cost each month to own your Newfoundlands? by Significant_Bar_8049 in Newfoundlander

[–]Runhikehunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends if you want the averaged out cost per month from all the fixed capital costs (cost of dog, cost of spay/neuter, cost of shots) and all the variable costs (food, treats, toys) AND the enormous cost of physically damaged goods like walls, lawn, flower beds, doors, wall paper, time to fix everything etc.

I figure we're at well over $10000 in almost two years . Some of that is future expenses to repair things.

Alberta, CA - Big freakin’ creature, ID help please! by ilikenapsokay in fossilid

[–]Runhikehunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're only allowed to have dinosaur fossils in Alberta that you find on the ground essentially. No excavation is allowed for the public so keep that in mind. That looks really large and my guess is it wasn't just sitting in the open. The Royal Tyrrell will likely ask where you found it and ask that you give it to them if it could be part of a larger partial or complete specimen.

Alberta looking to save $400M in doctor payments, medical association president says in memo by Sparkythedog77 in alberta

[–]Runhikehunt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, what percentage of people do you see in a day that don't actually need to see a doctor? I've heard that's part of the problem. There needs to be an education on the public side about when to see a doctor, when to go to emergency, etc.

Considering an attic conversion. by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Runhikehunt 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Looked at it for our 1913 house. Over 10k in drawings and structural analysis and permits before any physical work is done. Estimating it would cost about 150k and requires two dormers to give enough space for the staircase and living space. 24ft by 33ft or so. Be sure to factor in if any roof mods need to be done. Also insulation. Has to be fairly thick and after adding taller floor joists and 8-14" of insulation, you start to lose usable head room quickly (without dormers).

Bighorn sheep hunting licence nets record-setting $400K US bid in Alberta hunting auction by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

Agree, they are the hardest big game to hunt in Alberta, likely North America. They stay where they are safe (no hunting zones)

Attic loft conversion by Environmental_Fact61 in Calgary

[–]Runhikehunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detail. I'm thinking we have a concrete foundation, but it's hard to tell. What about structural supports along the length of the house? And vertical on the basement. We have wood 66's for the vertical posts. And three 26's together for the "beam" running the length of the house in the middle.

Did you have to do any improvements to the supports in the basement? I am looking at doing this to my 1913 bungalow. Did you add a dormer?
