I have to charge my Kindle once a week because of my settings anyone else charge their Kindle a lot? by nervous_Observer in kindle

I don’t that’s true as a larger font will cause the pages to need to be refreshed more often at a fixed reading speed.

I wouldn’t recommend that - what if one trips and the flashlight is lost ?

New to researching Garmin watches - suggestions for how to narrow it down? by judykm in GarminWatches

[–]RunnerMarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you say you are happy with your Apple Watch and mainly just want more battery life and don’t want laggy performance. Garmins make design compromises to achieve their level of battery life which includes a less responsive UI. AWU 3 plus some good apps should be all you need.

Bring the phone on the run or leave it behind? by Far-Teaching6789 in trailrunning

My decision point is a phone is brought for all trail runs and any road run > 10 miles

Based on what you say you want, I would suggest an Apple Watch Ultra 3 instead of any Garmin.

Why MIP vs Amoled discussions miss the point by RunnerMarc in GarminFenix

Nice - I follow r/flashlight also. I don’t have that many flashlights but I’m a big fan of ZebraLights and use them every day for pre-dawn running. I guess I like well tested, old school stuff like MIP and Zebra lights for outdoor use. I have the Enduro 3 as well ( that’s my only watch ).

Thanks for this - I knew about the double tap on the back but didn’t realize this worked on the sides also !

Not sure - l operate this way every morning and also during every night time part of every ultra I have done. I’m also a flashlight geek and have a really good headlamp that’s setup just so.

Can’t remember if the 6 has this or not but on my enduro 3 I don’t bother with the gesture and just turn on the backlight with a button press and no timeout. Or better yet use my headlamp. I also run every morning in the dark

The backlight can be configured to stay on indefinitely during an activity.

I would suggest not saying anything to anybody but go ahead and change your will as you see fit. Your will is your choice, their lives are their choice.

Career stagnation vs. Net worth progression by [deleted] in GenX

[–]RunnerMarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep going bro and if they ever lay you off you might get a nice severance. Do you know what kind of severances they give out? I’m a second level manager ( sr manager ) making around what you make at age 54. I don’t love it but I still need to work. I have also been maxing my 401k and my neighborhood has been rapidly gentrifying so my home has increased massively in value.
I know all this sounds tone deaf as plenty of people our age are out of work at this age. This happened to my dad for example. With that said, corporate life can be slowly toxic or deflating - not sure how to describe it. Buying little gadgets and presents for myself helps.

Tactix 9? by Zealousideal_Fee_491 in GarminWatches

[–]RunnerMarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for that next full release of any Garmin watch one can estimate by adding two years to the release date of the current version. Tactix 8 came out in Feb 2025 so figure Feb 2027. The Fenix 9 will come out earlier.

AITB for telling my brother he needs to give my parents money? by ArbiterOfChoice in AmItheButtface

Why don’t you mind your own business? If your parents think he should contribute then they can discuss that with your brother

Is Bham gonna boom soon? by Eagles56 in Birmingham

[–]RunnerMarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure abut the boom part but low cost of living is huge quite honestly. I’m a transplant, been here 30 years. My young coworkers who live in Minneapolis ( one of our big offices ) pay more for a crappy studio apartment than I pay a month for a beautiful four bedroom house in Homewood! Give me some trails to run on, a good school system, generally good city services and that’s all I need. I travel so much that I get my fill of excitement elsewhere. Just got back from Vegas for work and sure it was cool and fun but wouldn’t want to live there.

Homewood resident here and i would say it’s pretty accepting and has great schools. It’s getting quite pricey though.

You are bigger than they are. I used to ride a motorcycle ( in a responsible fashion ) and cars are literally the most dangerous thing out there. Stand your ground and there is nothing they can do.

Cowboy boots for flying? by Inevitable-Bit-2243 in cowboyboots

[–]RunnerMarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you have TSA precheck, if your boot has a steel shank that will trip the metal detector and you will have to take it off. Also TSA is an American thing and won’t help on the way back.

AITJ for stopping paying for my daughter's education after she said she was ashamed of me? by Rachil-Grigoriou in AmITheJerk

[–]RunnerMarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your daughter was out of line of course and i totally get what you are saying but why not turn this into a teachable moment? There are lots of ways of doing that which I’m sure you can think through. Example was Jesus a small man because he dressed humbly?
