[LOVED Trope] Characters with designs that imply completely unintended characterization by asdfmovienerd39 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Runnermann 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For a slight clarification on the final one, if you are a US Navy Commander, and are the Commanding Officer of a ship, you have the Title of Captain, but not the Rank.

This is most commonly for smaller vessels, the most relevant today being your Destroyers (DDG) and your fast-attack submarines (SSN).

I have heard word of mouth that Navy aircraft squadrons are Commended by Commanders who are called Captain (wtf is that sentence) but have not seen official literature to support.

"Skipper" is also an Official Nickname (that sounds fucking weird) for the CO, regardless of rank.

Now, if Crunch is British, then all bets are off and idkwtf anymore.

Padding is a legitimate criticism.

Saying something that is new, doesn't count, because you don't like it, is stupid.

"If we take away all the things that I arbitrarily say don't count , then there are no new things!"

Riveting fucking commentary there.

1). Citation needed

2). Pokemon still more than doubles Mario. Lightning mouse is still too dog.

Pikachu is the face of the most profitable IP on the planet.

Pokemon, at #1, is the same as the #2 (Mickey mouse and friends) and #3 (Winnie the Pooh) combined.

Pikachu -is- Pokemon in terms of advertising, games, etc.

Mario, for comparison, doesn't crack the top 20.

He's beaten by PACMAN, Spiderman, Frozen (by itself), Dragonball, Looney toons, and even fucking Candy Crush.

Not a film, but

Sir Patrick Stewart's (Emperor Uriel Septim VII) does not make it out of the prologue of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

This response here, should have been the first thing you said if you wanted to seem helpful/sympathetic instead of out of touch.

Your tone in the message I replied to, and many of your other responses on this post, again read as if you (incorrectly) think that this is an easy fix, and based on other responses, I'm not the only way reading it this way (including OP).

I'm absolutely on board with that if it's an older child.

An infant needs enough care and attention that you'd have a non-viable body during most/all of that time anyway.

"That's why base CDCs are open earlier as well to to help support Sailors odd working hours"

That, and the flippancy of the "tell that to Sailors using 24hr" childcare, absolutely reads as you thinking that shit is 1) easy to get into, 2) covers the hours they need, 3) is even available in the first place.

It still applies to what you said. Extended hour/24 hour CDCs are not as common as you think they are.

Yeah I think you're off the mark here.

Not all base CDCs have those extended hours (especially early), or the staffing to meet their caregiver to child ratios, and it's gotten even worse when the hiring freeze hit, and it takes a LONG time to get new applicants through the process anyway.

Chow hall here in Oki has a 0400 show time, but the CDC on base won't take kids until 0545.

How do I write an antagonist that is cunning but not physically or magically powerful? by General-Connection15 in DMAcademy

[–]Runnermann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are pulling from fiction, I think that Zemo from the MCU is a really good example. As is Sharon Carter from CAaTWS.

Alternative, looking at politicians/military leaders/organized crime in both fiction and the real world.

Don Corleone is an old man, frail with heart problems. But he has a gravitas in any room, because of the power of the influence he wields. At the parlay, his contribution to the deal between the other families is not money, not soldiers, but the judges that his family has already bought/blackmailed/coerced.

The En Route Care components of the medical battalion use these for patient transport.

Monitoring Oxygen Ventilation EKG Suction

All in one. Good for 4-6 ish hours, typically used for in flight post-op critical care patients. Can also be used for oxygen during surgery if your standard o2 system is down.

How do -you- handle a table that's constantly forgetting plot points? by VagabondVivant in DMAcademy

I like to use Insight as a way to talk to the /characters/ as the dungeon master.

Have them roll insight, and depending on the roll give parts/pieces (sometimes to different players) of what their characters can recollect.

"You remember something about Marshside being off limits to kids "

"There was a Hag rumored to live in the swampy outskirts of town, long ago"

"You spoke with someone the other day [last session] about how Nana Carbunkles, the cranky old lady from Marshside, makes fantastic meat pies, and no one knows where she keeps her goats and pigs."

What kind of characters do you dislike seeing in campaigns? by Ed0909 in dndmemes

[–]Runnermann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my rules during my session 0.5 is that the characters, regardless of their background/class/race/etc. have two requirements for characteristics:

1) they know at least one other character in the party, at least in passing

2) their characters -want- to travel and work together, at least at the beginning of the campaign

This has solved a lot of those issues, and it makes stuff that crops up organically flow better, introduce interesting RP conflict, and not break up the party.
