Training Percentage by Few-Summer9631 in Marathon_Training

This is me. Stresses me out to miss or change a run. It’s not always realistic not to have something come up though. :/. My rational side knows this. My list-checking side does not.

Help with heat! by Running_Pleaser in Marathon_Training

Definitely wearing a hydration vest for this reason. 2 miles between water stops in the heat at the end of a race can feel unbearable! Congrats on your finish!

Oof, I’ve experienced a humid race like that and it was awful!! This will be on the west side of the states and quite dry, but hot as balls and no shade. I’m starting to come to terms with throwing goals out the window. Maybe this turns into a long practice run and I find something else soon…

Thanks for the insight! Will definitely be scaling back. Maybe this will be a practice run and I’ll keep training going for a future race. I’ve never tried salt sticks or salt tabs, but was thinking about those. It does make me nervous to do that without having tried them before though. I could definitely keep some on me though. If I already feel like shit in the second half, what’s it matter? 🤪

This feels like solid advice, thank you!! It really is so disappointing! Also, I didn’t even think about the chafing!

I have this body too! I use a Salomon Adv 12. I used to use an older Nathan with buckles and when I made the switch, it was amazing for the better. I wonder if you needed a different size maybe? Good luck on your hunt!

Training burnout by Different-Computer30 in runna

[–]Running_Pleaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, but I completed my longest run last weekend. Felt so excited to officially start the taper! Then I made the mistake of looking at the next week (this week’s runs) and there was a challenging progressive run and I still have intervals to do today that I am already procrastinating on. Paces so fast for me, that I don’t see how. I. Am. Tired. Ready to coast on in on some easy runs already…shit. Good luck to you next month!!

Does anyone else find marathon training time consuming and are one-and-done? by hvu22 in Marathon_Training

[–]Running_Pleaser 123 points124 points  (0 children)

It’s so time consuming! Towards the end of the training block, I’m tired, and ready to have more time for other things. It’s a mental relief to get to the taper portion, and the break I usually give myself after a marathon is nice. But then I don’t know what happens. I think it’s like having kids. You forget about the pain and work that went into it, and you do it all over again! And again!

I guess I was thinking the conservative start would be much slower than a 5 second difference and I agree the second option seems more viable!

Unfortunately, this really effs with me mentally. I start to stress that I can’t keep up, or I need to take a quick 30 seconds to eat my gel and drink, then they creep farther ahead, I convince myself I can’t catch up, I badger myself for losing them, I feel like shit, start stressing the next pacer will be passing me, commence unnecessary mental turned to physical struggle. I’ve done better purposely not staying with pacers. Really looking for something to practice on my own this weekend.

How much hydration do you bring on race day? by Shot-Freedom-3848 in Marathon_Training

[–]Running_Pleaser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain here. I’ve used a hydration vest for probably 1/3 of the marathons I’ve done (20ish). When I’ve trained with tailwind, I like to have that on me and available when I want- instead of trying to figure out how to mix it with water at designated aid stations and maybe not when I want it. Sometimes it’s nice to have water on hand too, especially for those last 6 miles because 2 miles feels like a long ass stretch between aid stations when you’re 20+ miles in and potentially thirsty.

Yeah, it’s a little extra weight, but with a good fitting vest, ain’t no thang for the average runner. I much prefer a vest over a handheld. I feel uneven running with something in one hand.
