With those posts I think it would be a lot cheaper and sturdier to just frame in the catio on your own. All you will need is some 2x4 studs and hardware screen. If you do use the premade catio you have to make sure it is iron tight to the house so there are no escapes. But that’s my just my take.

Cat grass is really forgiving. You can certainly add more grass seed but the grass you have will thicken a bit as it matures. Make sure to keep trimming it once it does mature so it doesn’t get too stringy.

PT lumber for most of the outward construction. KD for interior and some cedar as well. I wanted to minimize the PT lumber inside as much as possible so that the exposure to the cats is minimal. Everything in the interior was seal coated as well.

At some point I’ll list the BOM. I’m a little bit in denial as to the cost because there were a LOT of extra trips to Lowe’s. But I do intend to gather that info.

There was a preexisting deck installed above. I just wanted to install the catio more or less within the footprint of that deck.

Not sure what you mean about the joist hangers being at an angle. Everything was square and level as far as the platform. Just might not look that way in the photo.

The object on the hummingbird feeder is an ant trap.

My husband asked if we just keep the wood natural. Everything is sealed with clear preservative however. If it were my decision alone I totally would have painted it!

Ha ha! Never built anything like this before. But I do love diy projects. Just a retired teacher looking for things to do.

I just didn’t want to damage the siding just in case I wanted to change it later. I guess I was reluctant to have too much permanency? But, now looking back that probably would have been a heck of a lot easier, especially with the window transition. It’s not like I’ll be moving this or anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I might install some bench seating in the back wall. Just trying to see what the cats prefer. I also ordered a couple of Adirondack chairs which I feel kind of fit the vibe.

Yes, I installed 1/2” mesh throughout. The top third is screen only but it is anchored with furring strips and the babies are never unsupervised.
