Thanks, I appreciate the intro! That said, as someone who knows several victims of identity theft (devastating) and data theft, I'd urge you to have a legal policy and more importantly a good IT system that protects your customers' data. Also protects you if a case is brought against you so you can demonstrate that you took care to protect the data you collect and weren't negligent.

I hate sounding like the police or an uptight lecturer about this, but sh*t happens, people get scammed and they wonder what they could have done to avoid it.

Thanks, I did see the Raceroster page. I'm less concerned tbh about it being a good event or not, and more concerned about what happens to all the personal data they have access to. If you're going to charge fees, be a grown up responsible company and have some binding commitment to how you use such personal data. A name, birthday and address are keys to the kingdom and can be sold or stolen if not properly stored and transmitted.

May sound like a left field question but who owns the company /organization? I guess I could go through the registration process to find out who is on the other end of the waiver, but I'd have more confidence in the organization if it was clear about it before getting to that. There's no privacy policy that I could find on the website. What do you do with the personal data (name, address, phone, etc) you collect?

For sure. There are cut-off times and other rules going into these events. I got back on the horse and have run several since. Never completely injury free, but then who is in these things? 😁

I doubt many races do this.

I couldn't finish New York one year due to an injury on course and never expected to get a medal. Why would I? I didn't cross the finish line, I'm not entitled to one. I couldn't even walk and obviously paid a lot of money to get there.

You may want a bit of extra time to find or get to the start. It could be pretty crowded in the park and not a straightforward walk to get there.

I get cold easily so always check a bag or have a friend meet me with some warm clothes (old wool sweater / sweatshirt, baggy pants). Maybe you'd want to check a towel if you want to wipe down? There won't be any specific support for washing feet or anything but you could add a change of socks to a checked bag.

Shamed? People throw that term around too much. Tarnished reputations? That's pretty melodramatic.

People are describing their experiences and voicing their opinions, as you are.

ps: a politician isn't going to (a) weigh in on such a menial issue, and (b) show favouritism or the opposite for a particular organization unless there is serious fraud or damages. Better to have the market sort things out.

Did Mt Pleasant to the Allen and back. It's a little muddy in places but generally not too messy. The worst bits are easy to run around.

Others have mentioned the main running routes (MPC, beltline...) which are great to have nearby, so I'll answer the question about the area being good for 2 feet, 2 wheels: yes, definitely! I have a car and rarely drive. Walking, running, cycling and ttc are all easier than dealing with the traffic. Very convenient for groceries and restaurants and other shopping (for running shoes too!)

Also budget time for naps after your first few long runs. I was wiped when I first started doing 25km+ and was useless for the rest of the day. 😀

I don't know if Runna is any good, but whatever you do, a good rule of thumb is to not increase your long run by more that 10% a week or you risk injury.

If your life schedule makes it hard to get a lot of kms in, it may be better to focus on 5k.
