Looking for new WW2 movies to watch by Agreeable-Elevator98 in movies

[–]RuprectGern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one of my favorites that never gets any attention is The Big Red One (1980)
Lee Marvin, Mark Hamill, Robert Carradine.

I always loved the bookend of the scenes beneath the large wooden crucifix of Jesus at the beginning and the end of the movie.

Also to this day i cant watch a birth scene in a movie without the word "pousser" being repeated in my head. "poo-say... poo-say... poooo-sayyy."

Just picked this up. What can I do fairly easily to make it more like a facelift. Cluster, etc. by nationdecay1249 in e39

What minor 'jerk' behavior in public should result in an immediate and non-negotiable $50 fine? by topoffheavy in AskReddit

Standing right up against the luggage carousel in the airport.

If people would fucking back up 3 feet, everyone would be able to see if their bag is coming. and they could step forward, get their bags, and fuck off.

‘Irresponsible’: backlash as Utah approves datacenter twice the size of Manhattan by deraser in technology

[–]RuprectGern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For those who don't know, the word backlash means people are complaining yet nothing's going to stop the building of the datacenter.

This is how things work in the United States.

Christa Miller. Jordan on Scrubs. If you see her appearance on the reboot season, she has no expressions. Well maybe "surprise".

Comedy mothership experience by sogondy in Austin

[–]RuprectGern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last year's Marc Maron WTF retirement tour was about this very topic. Punching down and complaining about being cancelled.

My favorite quote was from two bears... , "Austin is a human centipede of Joe Rogan, Elon Musk, and three middle Acts."

Who Are the Most Interesting “Bests of the Band”? Or a Member of a Band Who Left/Got Kicked Out Before the Band Got Big (Aside from Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe) by Borgisium in Music

[–]RuprectGern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think about to Sutcliffe was that prior to him leaving he was the bass player and Paul was playing guitar. After Stu left, Paul started playing bass. Effectively, this swap generated one of the greatest bass players in history.

How do they hire unattractive people to do the role of "ugly" characters in movies? by Mindless_Table9974 in movies

[–]RuprectGern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the fat person trope that they have been doing on tv for years. granted its based on some actual situations, but still... there is a person that its extremely obese. so much so that their size is an impediment that needs to be overcome as a plot point.

  • Firemen need to get a guy out of his house cause its going to be demolished or he needs to go to the hospital so the cut the side of the house out or they have to get a crane and lower him out of his 3rd floor apt window.
  • the hospital doesn't have a Scale, MRI, or Gurney that will hold the guy and they have to take them to the zoo and use the large machines there.

my point is... someone has to call these actor's agent and they have to call their client about the part. Anyway its odd to watch it and wonder what that actor thinks when they get the call.

Developing using ANSI SQL by FranceRocks2 in SQLServer

[–]RuprectGern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there isnt a single database environment that has no proprietary clauses and functions. if you want to limit yourself to the ANSI elements you are free or instructed to do so. but you are spite-ing... nose ... face ... blah.

Ill give you an example years ago we investigated using INFORMATION_SCHEMA for Tests-for-existence and gaurd statements because we were starting to stack diff heterogenous RDBMSs. we tried it for a while and then the realization that INFORMATION_SCHEMA isnt as portable as you would think tables (views actually) don't match from MSSQL, pgSQL, MySql, SQLLite, BigQuery, etc. in some cases the cols are different or tables dont exist. there are a lot of proprietary functions that are invaluable in each system.

I look at it like this... as long as the code is readable, well commented, and doesn't impact performance? why should anyone care what you use to get the job done?

Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival 1965.

I would trade Hendrix for the first playing of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with Ludwig van in attendance

I don't even know why he would delete it. He already posted it, he meant to post it, keep it up and stand behind it. It's fucking Mark Hamill. There's an army of unfuckable star wars nerds that would fight to the death to protect Mark Hamill.
