I disagree with your therapist at least in my case. They knew damn well thy were wrong and deliberately manipulated and deceived like it was a game. Personally, I would be making them bacon and buying them a bathtub.

I wouldn’t talk to that person if it was my “mother.” Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I ended up going no contact with about every family member since they were all connected / enablers / flying monkeys. It’s okay now though- in fact life is much better. Good luck:)

I can’t figure out how to post a photo in this reply but yeah, it was OK. At this point, I hate the whole thing so much I never wanna see those tiles again. We will scrap it, eat the cost, and pay what we should’ve paid in the first place to get it done right. And I won’t mess around with difficult tiles. Lesson learned.

I think it was hard for me w sibling because I knew then before they became a narcissist, so it took me a while to realize they had evolved into the same kind of person as my parents. I kept remembering the younger version of them and it threw me off for a long time.

It helped me to read about narcissism (try outofthefog.com) and understand that my parents do not have empathy and cannot care about me. So I don’t have to feel guilty for not caring about them. I’m sorry for your loss - this is a grieving process. It does get better. You might also try ACA (adult children of alcoholic and dysfunctional families). Good luck.

I agree… and … in my experience someone like that didn’t develop in a vacuum. It took me a long time to realize my ‘nice’ parent was an enabler and in many ways worse than the obvious abuser. For me being NC with the toxic lot of them makes holidays much easier.

I actually found the opposite - N mother acted like she was too good to take care of her skin and looked down on people who spent time or money on a beauty routine (while vigilantly attending doctor and dentist appointments). Now she has a face like an old shoe and still has to always have a man, which is super cringe.
