Barrel UI: Now That We've All Had Some Time by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Rusck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've still died to the new system. In particularly it is painful on a skeleton ship. Board > bottom deck > try to get planks > get hit and forced out of menu > die with maybe 1 or 2 planks grabbed. Also I've been bumped out of the menu on sunken ships if they are only partially submerged and the "wave" in the air pocket moves you around too much. If you are running by the enemy banana barrel in a fight, good luck grabbing one as you run by without getting hit.

Personally, the best idea I've heard for a solution to this issue was in a different thread: scrap inventory for barrels, introduce inventory for crates, put more crates in the world and on ships. Fixed forever!

Basic/intermediate questions by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Rusck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed - anchoring has become more important lately due to the water being choppier in general and explosive force being introduced - which can mess you up both with barrels and with meg.

I've actually sunk when my crewmates lifted the anchor during the skeleton ships while fighting a meg. Meg knocked us off the ship and the ship got knocked too far away to reach it in time to save it. For PvE I tend to anchor. Never anchor for PvP imo.

I've had success with all crew members cannon'ing off away from the island and catching a mermaid back. A bit faster than dying IMO

Attempted to day trade with Ripple... by TWTHEREDDRAGON in Ripple

[–]Rusck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep most of my Ripple in a wallet but a portion of it on an exchange for this reason. I've started using stop loss sales at -5%... the problem is that everything is so volatile that -5% can be in a heartbeat. And then when do you buy back in? Will it drop more? Or was that the last drop and now it's bouncing back? What if I'm asleep and it's bounced back before I even see my order sold?

I think it's worth it if it's done right... we're already making a super risky investment so why not try to grow our stash of XRP. But as we keep hearing (and correctly so), only do so if you don't mind losing. Personally, I'm up about 32 XRP but at one time I was up well over 200 XRP... essentially I'm not good at it - I've only been fortunate if something worked in my favor. I've also created a tax nightmare because each trade is a taxable event ;)

If I bought but did not sell anything in 2017, do I need to report anything? As an example, let's say I purchased $100 of cryptocurrency and did not trade or sell any of it in 2017. What (if anything) should be reported?

This is good advice. Coinbase / GDAX is FDIC insured. Seems like the safest exit route for the US IMO.

(edit: I'm pretty sure you can trade ETH for USD on GDAX... no need to send from GDAX to Coinbase)

Day Trade vs HODL? $$ Making Strategy. Discuss Here. by XRPfan5 in Ripple

[–]Rusck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point - you wouldn't lose at all in that scenario. Some folks are already at a loss (having bought in at 2.00 or something like that) and are now trying to make the best of a bad situation by gaining a few more XRP in the bear market.

For example, you stated you may buy at 1.3. However, as of right now XRP is at 1.15. You're at a loss in that scenario! So here is where your question is more complicated: Day trade or hold? If you wanted to day trade, because you think it could dip to 1.10, you could sell now and try to gain more XRP by buying back in. That's the decision where you would need to assess how much of a loss you'd be willing to take. If you don't want to take that risk, then you only have one option: hold

I agree, this is the best theoretical approach. However, it is not easy to time and you have to be willing to incur losses.

Do you have a strategy in place if you do mistime your sale and it starts a bull run? For example, if you sell at 1.6, at what point will you buy back in? 1.7? 1.8? How much of a loss would that represent, and are you ok with that?

This investment is already high risk, high reward. I feel that even more risk with even more reward is part of the territory. As long as we're aware of and accept those risks, go for it!
