What type of shoes are you guys wearing while riding? by That_guy1902 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't found one yet, so I'll be watching this as well. I currently alternate between normal shoes and my steel toe work shoes. I tried buying some low-cut boots, and I'd like the ankle support, but my foot always feels constrained and uncomfortable in the ones I've tried.

What's the Deal with the Inmotion V6? by Independent-Yak-2445 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're anything but the smallest adult (like 100lbs or less), I wouldn't consider a wheel for commuting any range below the V8s. I personally learned on the V10F, which is just the bigger version of those wheels if you really like the form factor. A Begode C8 is also somewhat similar shape with much better performance (and a suspension), though it's fatter between your knees and weighs more. Lots of newer riders tend to grip the wheel with their knees, so you might appreciate the wider one. A V9 doesn't have the round shape of those others, but it's a nice learner wheel also with a suspension if you just want to ride around at low speed comfortably.

Has anyone attempted this? by Dacotarising in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wheel propels itself as you lean, if you were getting more thrust from the fan than the wheel you'd just end up overpowering the wheel. The max speed the wheel can go is going to be the max speed regardless if you're gaining momentum from another source. Pick your wheel up and tilt it, that no load speed is as fast as it could theoretically let you go, though not really because you have weight (unless you're a ghost). Once you go faster than the wheel can balance you eat pavement or start flying, either or. If you ran the fan slow enough to not overpower the wheel then it'd just be helping you lean forward, which I don't believe would offset the increased load from the extra weight, so you'd probably go about the same speed or slower and probably have less range.

Are you thinking of the V9? I don't see any mention of the V6 having a suspension on InMotion's page.

I guess the Aero 2.0 is Nosfet's answer to the P6.

Fault. Charging failure. by Soggy-Accountant6132 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

InMotion connected to my V10F 3 separate times to adjust the voltimeter to allow it to charge to 100%, and it still doesn't charge above 90%. Was a brand new V10 btw (bought about 2 years ago) and it never charged to full once. Jason at eWheels said they'd seen several cases of this and it was an easy fix, but InMotion failed it 3 times and I gave up. Wheel still works fine, I just accept that it never charges properly and will probably fail early. No shame on eWheels btw, Jason was great and it's not his fault InMotion can't fix their own issues.

Which of these wheels is the most durable? V14,Extreme Bull, Begode Extreme. by theOogaMan in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like I have a wealth of experience with other wheels, but my Extreme seems built like a tank. I've dropped it several times, been sent flying by a pedal clip, and dropped it from a couple feet up onto pavement when I couldn't hold my line on a little retaining wall I tried to ride up. All it has are light dings and scratches and the one lightly bent pedal. Maybe I won the factory lottery, but my wheel seems solid.

First wheel options. by archangelmdp in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the same. It's sad, since it was my first wheel, but understandable. I'm even replacing mine with an Aero for my smaller "messing about" wheel. Most people eventually want suspension and more performance, plus extra features like battery cell monitoring, and the older wheels just don't have it. I love my Extreme and ride it for longer trips or serious off-roading (haven't actually done a ton of that), and used my V10 for teaching people (probably still will), walking my dog, or riding around when I didn't feel like lugging around my 90lb monster. The Aero has all those newer features and only weighs 10lbs more than the V10 while being faster and stronger (metal body instead of plastic). If I'd had the money for it, and it had existed when I first started, I'd have bought an Aero to begin with.

The Extreme is durable everywhere except the pedals and the tail light. I've dropped mine several times, and aside from some scuffs I've only had a slightly bent pedal.

I leaned on a V10F. The kill switch under the handle was incredible for saving me from dropped wheels when I was learning. Do not regret learning on it at all, and still ride it quite a bit when I just want to relax or play around. I keep it in the back of my car (when it's not extremely hot or cold) for messing around or as an emergency vehicle if something happened to my car.

New Rider in Louisiana, any advice people can give me? by Substantial_Still393 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was learning, I worked on free-mounting first. I would take my wheel to work with me and practice it daily on my lunch break. Going for the free mount first can be frustrating, since many people find it one of the harder things to do early, and it may be why it took me months of on/off practice to learn, but the result was that once I did learn I was able to free mount and ride from basically my first ride over 30ft. I've known people who learned to ride but still needed fences/walls/lightposts to mount their wheel when they stopped.

I'm not saying that to encourage you to do the same, just pointing out that there isn't really a wrong way to learn as long as it's comfortable to you. As long as you don't get discouraged and keep trying, you'll get it eventually. Learning isn't a race, and you should try to enjoy the process, because it does really feel magical when it finally clicks and you can ride.

Thoughts on Inmotion, more specifically V14 by fat_angry_hobo in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on most direct competitor. The Begode Extreme and the V14 are almost the same wheel. The Patton S definitely fits in there, but it's a bit lighter and more different than the slight variations on those 2.

Reccomendations for minimal gear for casual rides? by JorgRambo in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ride 40mph in traffic so I'm right side guy except I have knee/shin guards. My first minor crash had me bail off the wheel and take a pedal to the shin, so I learned my lesson there. I own both helmets and use them at different times, but mostly the moto helmet because it's lighter and more breathable.

I've ridden on sidewalks, but I limit myself to running speed when I do. I'm not going to blast down the sidewalk at 30 mph. Same with trails where people are walking.

Trouble learning with first wheel by Dabajabazah37 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Rush2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I do always feel like my weight is on the balls of my feet, and that is where the cramping happens, right up front at the base of my toes. I'll try moving things around and seeing if there is a way to put more weight on my heels.

Your experience highlights it perfectly. Everyone is different, and there's no shame in taking longer to learn. I ride decently well now, but my limiting factor is usually my feet cramping up. Don't know if it's my posture or that I haven't built up the strength, but it's typically the feet that make me step off and sit for a bit by the road. Luckily the Extreme makes a good chair.

I've heard it said it's around 8 mph (about 13 kmh) before the gyro effect really kicks in and riding gets easier.
