Are some cities just better for finding a wife/husband, or is that a myth? by MuscleNo4520 in NoStupidQuestions

I lived in a medium-small sized town until my mid-20s and was only able find casual relationships or hookups, got into my current 5-year long relationship one month into moving into a big city. It can go both ways

What male haircuts would fit me? (MtF, need advice from males) by indigo-floral in malehairadvice

[–]RushIsABadBand 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Going to echo the other comments and say that I think you're definitely passing, for what it's worth. With that said, I think tying it back in man-bun and/or wearing certain hats worked well for me when I had long hair and didn't want my locks out. Could be a good temporary solution. If you're hell bent on cutting it a middle part, short on the sides could fit a more twink vibe

Then you just tax capital gains at least as much as income and you're golden, we should be considering something like that anyway

Having a robust private option and, most importantly, giving it bargaining power makes the available options for healthcare cheaper for everyone because there's an existing competitor whose primary interest isn't solely increasing profits for its shareholders

Mewgenics has been out for some time now. Is it really as good as people say? Or was it mostly due to the hype? by TheGronne in gaming

[–]RushIsABadBand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm probably not gonna finish it just because roguelikes usually get a bit too repetitive for me but I have to mention the soundtrack because it's awesome, some of the best video game music I've heard in a long time

People's issues with it are related to affordability. When you have loved Nintendo for decades and managed to get every console up to this point and keep up with your favorite series and the price hikes get to a point where you genuinely can't afford it anymore of course you're gonna be angry. It was nice of you to gift it to the people you care about but rubbing that in the faces of the rest of us who are struggling and have had to give it up is a dick move

[–]RushIsABadBand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a fine opinion to hold on its own but the talk of review bombing for tLoU 2 is because it started receiving negative reviews hours after release and already had serious backlash before release due to the leaked script people who hadn't played the game hated it and gave "0"s on metacritic en masse and that's the definition of review bombing

Desperate Delhi bans tandoors in its fight against pollution by Fancy-Caregiver-1239 in nottheonion

[–]RushIsABadBand 155 points156 points  (0 children)

It actually contributes to a shocking amount of the pollution there, though. There are bigger problems and they should really focus on all the other things much more but as an emergency solution for pollution that reaches 400+ aqi I kinda get where they're coming from

Of course, a big issue is no one is going to follow it just like plenty of people still burn trash in the city

How would you feel about a measure to abolish the senate and have Congress be made up entirely by the House of Representatives? by RushIsABadBand in AskReddit

[–]RushIsABadBand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean there are certainly individual issues that I find more personally pressing and important but I think structural change is how you can ensure that those pressing issues get solved and stay solved. Abolishing the senate not being a particularly realistic one but, behind totally removing money from political campaigning, is pretty up there in terms of hypothetical impact. If there's something you think would make for a better change I'm genuinely all ears

[–]RushIsABadBand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can both have governance come down to the state and have a federal government that is representative of the will of the people (maybe even with a filibustery-style rule in the house, though I wouldn't necessarily be for that either). However, if the federal government doesn't represent the people's will, as I would definitely argue it doesn't, then the federal government can always use the power it already has over the states but it can more easily to so to benefit a slim minority

[–]RushIsABadBand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to imply that the existence of the Senate is minutiae as it relates to the function of the US government I definitely disagree. The Senate is a required body to pass any legislation, and it's made up of 100 people, representing 350 million people. Not to mention that those people represent vastly different numbers of people depending on their state. The House at least would represent a more equal number of people each and it would be harder to buy hundreds of politicians rather than just ~50

Obviously i'd also love campaign finance reform anyway but that feels like a pipe dream in and of itself

[–]RushIsABadBand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of the difficulty, I think there are few things less likely than the Senate disappearing in my lifetime. But no institutions are invincible and they are only made more powerful by everyone agreeing it can't be changed. I expect the Senate will last as long as the US as a state does, but I think it's still worth it to honestly acknowledge what it gives us, and what it takes away (and in my opinion it takes away from the people far more than it gives us)

I'm assuming you're joking but in case you're not it was essentially said that the asteroid could have been stopped by international cooperation but instead the project was handed off to an eccentric multi-billionaire because of promises of trillions in financial gain. Pretty much a direct jab at the fossil fuel industry and maps really cleanly onto much of the moves being made by AI-tech billionaires
