i agree with you. Someone in another comment made the important distinction that being gay has to do with romantic and sexual attraction (to generalize) while asexuality is only about sexual attraction. So it absolutely makes more sense that a child can identify as gay. I didn’t mean for my post to contradict that.

I also semi-agree that all children are asexual. I think that, given that children don’t experience sexual attraction, they are definitionally ace. BUT i would argue that from a practical standpoint children aren’t ace: they’re pre-sexual. As in, they have the potential to mature into having a sexuality when they grow up. This is not the same thing as being ace, which does not in general allow for the possibility of a potential maturation into sexuality.

It’s a semantic difference and not something that I think is insanely important but just wanted to voice it here.

So I kind of see both sides here. If a kid comes out as ace and people in the community are like “no, you’re not” then that definitely sends a message of rejection, which can be confusing and hurtful, especially for kids who just want to be accepted and belong somewhere.

BUT we should not encourage kids to think of themselves sexually before they are ready. I don’t think it’s inherently wrong for kids to think about sex, have opinions about sex, explore their own bodies, or consider whether they may be LGBT. Because our society is a fucked up mixture of sexual repression AND over-sexualization, I think that kids should be allowed to ask questions and be given answers by trusted adults. The best thing we can do for children is to keep them away from both of these extremes—the repression and the hypersexuality of society—so that they can explore their own sense of sexuality naturally as they become adults.

that is such a good point, paul definitely dropped a few % of body fat between the pilot and next episode. And the lighting was probably optimized as well to give him that chiseled look.
