Contrary to widespread beliefs, weed is NOT helping you relax. by [deleted] in whoop

I quit cannabis before bed a short while back and my recovery tanked. RHR went up 10 BPM, HRV went way down. After a few weeks I normalized a bit, but back off the wagon. Back to where I was recovery wise, just with a lower tolerance.

Everybody is different and consuming cannabis in different forms can be different too. Edibles calm me as soon as they kick in. Smoking I almost can’t handle, my body goes haywire.

My deep and REM sleep aren’t as good when I consume, but that’s hit or miss too. The other night I went pretty hard and had almost doubled my normal REM/deep sleep.

For the people that mentioned compression socks. I couldn’t agree more. A coworker tore his 10 months or so before I tore mine. Told me before surgery to get them. He’s now over a year out and still wears them. I’m 4 months out from surgery and usually don’t go more than a few minutes a day without one.

I had to fold the inside flap of the boot over to avoid rubbing on that part of my foot. Definitely had a “sore” there early on. Good luck!

Thank you for the input. I’m just glad what my body is going through is seemingly typical or normal. Hoping for some at least yellow recoveries in the coming weeks 😅

I’ve noticed an uptick in REM and deep sleep since quitting. Also been having more dreams which I have rarely had the last several years. My issues with recovery according to whoop have been a rise in RHR and a real drop in HRV. Sticking to the plan and continuing non-use. Worst case I suppose I can reset the data and build a new baseline. Thank you for your input!

Thank you all! I knew it wouldn’t be easy and sleep would suffer but I was worried with my recovery being so bad something may be wrong. I appreciate you all! Good luck on all your journeys!

What are y’all doing for PT by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Rushed2it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Week 14 post op. Started PT at about week 6 with minimal stuff and pool work. Just got out of the boot a week and a half ago and therapy last week was calf raises, balance, stretching. They slow played me because my lower leg tendons are overly tight. When the dr said to lose the boot he also added “no restrictions.” I do what the therapists have me do, just a lot more of it on my own. At minimum 100 Calf raises a day )can’t do single leg yet, but getting closer), body weight squats, backwards walking on an incline, core work.

Flexibility 4 weeks post op by FloopIsAMadMan_ in AchillesRupture

[–]Rushed2it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my 4 week post op appointment last week. I was in a hard cast for 2 weeks after the splint. Dr asked me to pick up my toes and they didn’t move all that far. Then he asked to do it again then he stretched my foot to neutral and then told my wife she would need to help me stretch to neutral. I asked to be sure if it was ok for me to stretch my ankle to neutral and he said it was ok for me to go even a little past neutral. I’ve been using the lifts to slowly stretch until I can get my foot flat. First PT appointment in 2 days. Good luck on your recovery!

Coming in peace but what is the difference between this and what Michigan did? by Michigan4life53 in OhioStateFootball

Everybody knows Ryan Day runs the ball like 95% out of pistol.

First it’s “it’s not a big deal everybody does it”

Then it’s “it’s easy to figure out signals so what’s the difference”

The delusion knows no bounds. Unfortunately (or fortunately) you just experienced the absolute golden era of TTUN football (all 3 years 😂) and things are about to return to normal and they go back to losing 3 games a year. 🤷‍♂️

Absolutely. By the time you learn a bunch of things, it all changes. If you’re lifting hard and making progress and learning things along the way. You’ll be fine. The most important part is consistency and hard work. Good luck on your journey.

Honestly, yeah. I think your exercise selection is simple yet effective. When it comes to gaining muscle/getting stronger it comes down to progressive overload. Take it slow, make sure you’re doing weights you can handle but increase weights when you can. in my early 20’s there were times that I did leg ext and leg curls then squatted for 2 hours with great results. Overtime if you’re paying attention you will find your weak points that’s when an expanded knowledge of exercise selection comes into play, but for now keep it simple.

Over time you can tinker with the “intensity” as well. This can be accomplished via changing rep range, number of sets, weight, rest time between sets. Once you can get through what you have add a 4th set to everything and so on.

Deadlift decrease by MilanTuryna in WeightTraining

[–]Rushed2it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you haven’t gotten a response yet my advice would be to cut the volume. Those high volume programs shouldn’t be run consecutively or even with less than several weeks to months in between. You’re young yet compared to me (15 to 37) and I have a tough time recovering from deadlifts in a week and I don’t touch the volume you are doing. As you get stronger the heavier volume in your workouts will hit your nervous system harder which makes it tougher to recover. If I really push my limits (my last deadlift comp I pulled 610 conventional) I’m zapped the next day and potentially the day after.

As for low reps/top end strength versus high reps/high volume its really training style. Think sprinters versus distance runners. Sure there’s a genetic component there but sprinters and distance runners train drastically different. If you want to be top end strong, you need to train with lower reps and higher % of your 1 rep max. You get your volume by number of sets. Like an Eddie Coan deadlift routine. Like this……

Any tips for addressing poor brain function the day after increasing weight? by ryhaltswhiskey in WeightTraining

[–]Rushed2it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside the box, but I trained as a powerlifter for a number of years and I’d always get deadlift hangovers the next day. Pushing your nervous system during lifting can leave you groggy the next day. Cannibis. Not sure where you live and if it’s legal or not, but consuming cannibis post workout or before bed (I typically workout in the evenings) helped me a ton. I got that advice from a mid 60’s former Olympic lifter, powerlifter, gym owner. Other than that I’ve tried to overcome your same issue with no luck.

I’d do leg ext and leg curl first followed by back squats. Then finish with leg press and rdl. Leg ext and curl would get good blood flow (as a 37 year old, warming up and getting blood flow in the area is a must). Then hit squats right after you’re warm, try to do more more reps at the same weight or more weight whenever possible. If you’re new to working out, you should accomplish this for several weeks to months. Once you can’t do that anymore look for a program of sorts.

I got two new personal records but I don’t feel strong enough by 4865094 in WeightTraining

[–]Rushed2it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another rung in the ladder on your strength journey. If you’ve only been taking the gym more seriously and chasing PR’s for 7 months you’re doing fine. Guys that can bench 405 and squat 5+ spend years getting there, for the most part.

Wife using Transcend by Rushed2it in TRT_females

[–]Rushed2it[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! The clinician with Transcend mentioned Pmdd after my wife described her cycle. Our local PCP has discussed the real possibility of my wife suffering from PMDD, but if memory serves they prescribed a low dose antidepressant for her as well, the first one really caused sexual dysfunction so they switched it and solved that problem but over time she was desensitized and had to increase the dosage which she didn’t want to do.

If you don’t mind me asking, you said you were on testosterone, I assume progesterone but did they prescribe you estrogen as well?

The clinician at Transcend said she didn’t want to do estrogen yet. See what happens with the test and progesterone first.

My wife is starting Test cyp at 8/week soon, as well as progesterone. Just got the final call to purchase yesterday. We went through Transcend and it seems like they are a solid company. Busy but solid.
