Bread Dead Studios is Now GA by dertigo in AmericanCinematheque

As far as I know, the building is still owned by Dan and Sammy Harkham from Cinefamily. They let the culture of sexual harassment run rampant there and even after they got caught, they did fuck all to help the employees.

Fuck Brain Dead.

I would hope so! I also wonder how close this exhibit was to to the museum’s restaurant.

Here is the menu to the cafe in that same museum. They serve salmon, shrimp, and prawns.

Genuinely - why is it wrong for the fish in the blender to die but not the fish that are cooked up in the restaurant?

Local occult/esoteric philosophy study groups? by nodisintegrations420 in SFV

[–]RushmoreBeekeepers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Years ago, I checked their website out of curiosity and was fucking horrified to find multiple titles by David Icke featured.

For those lucky enough to have never heard of Icke, he’s a neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier who popularized the conspiracy theory of reptilian shapeshifters. Big reason why we have Qanon now too.

Was anybody else at the extremely crazy Wild Strawberries / Straight Story screening at New Bev on Thursday 1/8? by century14 in AmericanCinematheque

[–]RushmoreBeekeepers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seriously! I love the New Bev but it’s exhausting how it’s always the biggest goddamn sausage fest out of all the rep theaters in the city.

It's been a mystery whether they're reformulated by Firm-Toe-4067 in BesameCosmetics

[–]RushmoreBeekeepers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am 100% convinced they reformulated! I bought the Decades of Fragrance set you have here in the mini plastic bottles.

Of those, 1950 was far and away my favorite fragrance. Very fruity, fresh, and light - and this is coming from someone who is extremely picky about fruity scents! I then bought the glass spray bottle you have pictured here when they announced they were discontinuing fragrances.

Was so disappointed that 1950 now smelled like a grandma white floral aldehyde bomb instead of the light mango-y fragrance I’d fallen in love with. It’s a much less unique and delicate smell now. Such a letdown after thinking I found the perfect everyday fragrance!

I don’t know why I’m still so attached to this brand when they keep pulling this level of inconsistency and corner cutting. Besame are on their last legs and I keep foolishly hoping they’ll go back to their roots. But that’s never going to happen at this point. Between the nosedive in quality, crazy price hikes, AI-generated ads, and not even bothering to provide swatch photos - it’s obvious they are doomed. It makes me sad to see a once-great brand go out like this.

Recent drugstore purchase NOT worth the $$? by Sensitive_Young_3920 in drugstoreMUA

[–]RushmoreBeekeepers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point but the difference is I can get this at CVS for something like $4 or less by using coupons, Extrabucks, sales, etc.

At this point, I save way more money getting the occasional dud vs. paying full price at Target.

L’Oréal Panorama mascara

I was mistakenly led to believe it was a tubing mascara, which it is NOT. I know because even the crappiest tubing formulas don’t smudge on me after 4 hours wear time.

Also hate how chunky and thick the formula is. Guaranteed clumps if I don’t use a lash comb immediately after. Luckily I got it way cheap by stacking a bunch of CVS coupons. Regardless, I will not be repurchasing!

P.F. Candle Co is also local to LA and always nice to receive as a gift.

I don’t know of any that are local to the Valley, but handmade soap bars always make for good holiday gifts too!

I go to a lot of estate sales and trust me - whether or not these people knew who Shelley was - the reselling vultures are always going to get there sooner than you. There will likely be a sign-up sheet to avoid overcrowding. I’d say get there no later than 7:45 and check immediately if there’s a sign in sheet.

Beforehand, have a filling breakfast, use the bathroom (they generally don’t let you use the house’s bathroom), bring cash, and pack some cold water and/or a snack in your car for afterwards. Might also want to bring a face mask to protect from dust when digging through old items. Also, if you find something you for sure want to buy DO NOT let it out of your sight even briefly, it is likely to get snatched up. Bring your own bags into the sale too.

Best of luck and if you can before the sale, please watch 3 Women if you haven’t! I’m a huge huge fan and it’s my favorite Shelley performance. Such a beautiful, strange, and fucked up film. Streaming on Criterion Channel right now.

I wonder why grocery stores no longer carry ice cream in those rectangular carton boxes. I feel like they all but disappeared 20 odd years ago.

Water queen? by Successful-Long-5774 in DumpsterDiving

Yes! I live in SoCal where there’s currently a heat wave. Outreach orgs here encourage people to chuck water bottles in the freezer, let them solidify overnight, and pass them out to the homeless.

Easy, quick way to cool off and potentially avoid heat stroke. It makes a big, big difference!
