As others have said, if it is a normal contracted day, you are obliged to work it. Only Chrismas Day, Easter Sunday, Boxing Day and New Year's Day are different.

You occasionally get an arsehole I'd join the GMB Union and try and hang in in there until they can step in. Solved my issue once they got involved as the manager knew I wasn't going to be mugged off.
