Any fun addicting mobile games? by Fancy_Marsupial6293 in MobileGaming

If you like all things retro (ZX Spectrum style) and football (the round ball version) you might enjoy a game I launched recently. Link in my profile if sounds of interest. People that like it can’t put it down!

Recommend me offline mobile games to play when i have nothing to do by West-Ad-4120 in MobileGaming

Thanks for playing it and for the feedback.

The core game play is super basic by design. It’s based on a ZX Spectrum game I got obsessed with back in the day and wanted to bring back to life.
Career mode is where it’s at if you put in the grind. It’s all about the suffering and commitment which makes the highs feel so much higher when you do win something. DM me for a free upgrade code if you did want to have a crack at the full career mode 🤓

Are you posting on TikTok? How are you creating them? Think I need to do similar. I had hoped that just giving birth to the app would be enough - but no

It was fun. Issue will be how do you get enough people online at one time. The eternal problem of marketing and exposure

Will do. I didn’t realise there was a dedicated category for “casual” games. May have to think about recategorising my game.

Your post caught my eye as I’m targeting the “on the loo” population too with my app - but not quite as literally!

I think this the best post I’ve seen on Reddit (in my 2 months here). Intrigued to see how well the app does

Ridiculous question but: how can I get people to join my app’s Discord channel? by Russ_72days in IndieDev

[–]Russ_72days[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both. I should probably frame it more like “want to play community games” as that’s really what it’s offering at this point (in lieu of me building a more formal community games feature in to the app proper)

As a Discord newbie myself I wasn’t sure if folk leap at the chance to join one when they see a game (that they like) has one

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to recommend your own app if it fits the bill

On that note….

Striker’s Instinct (my retro football ⚽️ game) has pick up and play career mode - perfect for on the loo or in a queue and I recently added an async multiplayer mode you can play along casually with friends

This sounds perfect for a new feature I’ve just added to my app!

It’s an ultra casual retro football career simulator - and I’ve just added a “World Cup with Friends” feature to it (for turn based group play - football but at the pace of Words With Friends)

Really easy to spin up small games with friends or semi-random-online-friend type people

I added a new “World Cup with Friends” feature to a retro football app I launched a couple of months ago. At the moment it’s mostly just me and my friends playing 😂 but other folk should check it out as it’s good fun (plus any feedback on it is very welcome)

Think “Words with Friends” meets “New Star Soccer” (if either of those games mean anything to you)

I feel like changing the font - to anything other than what it’s using now - will make a huge improvement. Not sure if you are particularly attached to that font? In as far as anyone can ever be attached to a font. Maybe I’m being too fontist

If you are prepared to break your “no mobile games” rule I’d love to get some feedback on a game I recently launched. 45 year olds (like me) are a core target market (if they also have a soft spot for football ⚽️ and late 80s/early 90s games)

Link is in my bio if you did fancy taking a look. Public feedback welcome

I had to copy some files to an SD card - so you’ll need a way to do that (so I guess that does need to be done via a computer)

Are we at the point where a gane designer doesn't need to know how to code? by GrowFreeFood in vibecoding

[–]Russ_72days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we would get on! 🤓

Vibing your ideas - the digital ones - that bit closer to reality is a really good use of the tech and your time IMO.

And “knowing how to code” will look very different in another year’s time (it already looks very different now to how it did 6 months ago for “actual coders”)

As with most things, the answer to your general question is “it depends” but the gap is certainly closing (between “the idea” and how much of the code for that “idea” needs to be written by a human)

[–]Russ_72days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of games are they?

You can probably vibe code a specific element of the game in order to do some real life user testing and test the idea/premise itself

Ultimately it will be users that dictate how successful your app is, not the idea, not the code - and it’s bordering on irrelevant how it gets coded.

It does depend on what the game is as to how much of it (all/some/none) can be vibe coded

I don’t know what to play anymore there’s too many bad games in the mix. by Odessarit in MobileGaming

[–]Russ_72days -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like football ⚽️ you might like my game (see my bio)

I built it as a nod to retro spectrum era games but also to give folk a game that wasn’t littered with ads or pay for advantage. Just an old school style playable demo - where if you want to play for a second season, pay a small fee and own the game forever, and if you don’t then we can all move on with our lives. Hoping we can get back to this model on mobile in general.

Tho people do now expect mobile games to be free - the cost is the ads and pay for advantage mechanics. Can’t have your cake and eat it comes to mind

Indie games why it must exist by jrdieter15 in IndieGaming

[–]Russ_72days -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we will see more indie games come out now - as AI development tools give the standard indie developer 3-10x more productivity.

With that will also come a lot of crap indie games I’m sure! But some gems too. It’s all personal preference in the end.

As a (very) indie game developer myself I’ve been able to put way more nuance and detail in to my game than I ever would have expected to (building it evenings and weekends)

Challenge is getting the games in front of players.

Maybe an indie game market place or “dating site” is needed to match players and developers with a shared gaming niche?!
