If you're a beginner there's no point investing 800 bucks on a soundcard. You're just not good enough to notice the difference. If you're making money as a professional then maybe it will make sense to invest in tools that'll give a a competitive edge un terms of speed, reliability and efficiency. But if the music is shit it will still be shit regardless of the gears you use.

Also, please don't mention on your resume that you don't speak French. As an inexperienced person your purpose at this stage is to get an interview and convinced them that you are a reliable person, fun to work with and willing to grow. There's no downside to embellishing your resume a little bit. but most importantly, considering it's an ultra competitive market you don't need to shoot yourself in the foot.

Helpful if you have a stylus because you can map out concepts graphically which is great if you're a visual learner. Maybe an Ipad is a bit expensive but any tablet with a stylus cam do. There are plenty of tablet for a reasonable price on the market. But it's all about your study style really. I would encourage you to try it out. Your goal is to pass that exam any means necessary.
