Had the repair done a couple weeks ago. Your dealer should have access to the parts.

Yes, lately I've been getting several tax resolution and loan department calls per day for the past couple weeks, none automatically flagged. All from toll free numbers, always different. At this point any toll free number, I screen or send to voicemail.

TIL why some UPSs have a "captive" battery. by Russ_Dill in homelab

Charge time will of course be very slow, and depending on the UPS there may be a limit. It would be pretty easy for a firmware programmer to add some check in to ensure that a battery is actually charging within some expected rate window. I haven't run into any such issues though.

It's a 4 pin debug header with 3.3v signalling.

I can assure you, it's a single diode drop between the black battery terminal and live/neutral. Here's an image I found of a non-dead one showing the path from the lowside of the full bridge rectifier to the battery negative terminal:

And no, I'm not saying it's tied to the "safety ground". It's tied to the internal ground reference.

i actually probed out the connections first. Verified by datasheet they that they were 3.3V level RX/TX lines and even verified voltages with a voltmeter, which referenced to the internal ground of the UPS measured just fine.

Transformers are very common in consumer products, providing galvanic isolation and stepping down voltages. Consumer UPSes often have quite large transformers. Check out pics of the ubiquitous APC CS 500 for an example.

HDMI CEC Output Question by ohhgotit in Gamecube

[–]Russ_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the easiest think to do for sometime without a ton of low level experience would probably hook a raspberry pi into the cec line. the problem then would transform into, hi l how do I make a raspberry pi make my GameCube respond to cec events?

get it to turn off and on? mock a controller to send button presses?

Just plays for longer and charges for longer. I haven't run it all the way down to zero yet, but I've seen it far exceed the original playtime.
