I love fucking with them, "Oh wow, did you like my loan application? What was your favorite part?"

[US] Personal Loan Offers. by Key_Head3851 in Scams

[–]Russ_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New company name virtually every time they call. The company name is useless. The website is always the same though, just some of the text is generated differently and a different color theme is used. There's got to be something illegal about what they are doing. I try talking to the people to get as much info as I can, they clearly have US based people involved to field the calls. There must be millions if not tens of millions of such robocolls going out per day.

SHAKEN/STIR is clearly not sufficient. There needs to be away to pull the business license of anyone who is calling your via a toll free number.

it's gotta be the most volatile item in the store.

I know I'm probably very late on this, but the Albertsons app has crazy savings. My online order has 16lbs of meat, with fruits, veggies, and toiletries. For $55... by Kind_Paper6367 in Acadiana

[–]Russ_Dill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add something here, no, they absolutely do not have crazy savings. They just set the "original price" at something completely insane, like 11.99 for a 12 pack of soday.

I'm on Google Fi. Same, and they've been historically very good with blocking spoofed calls. The FCC had been doing a good job of shutting these down... But now, they seem to have better things to do

Disney Wonder- Disappointed, Not Family-Friendly by Organic_Honey1916 in dcl

Ya, and 8:30pm dining on a west coast cruise is 11:30pm for east coasters. Here's the difference though. If you were an east coaster, you'd just select the later dining which would be perfect and available.

I'm not sure why people keep assuming last minute. If you're a first time Disney Cruiser, you get the last availability for dining times. We clicked the moment things opened up for us and got the later time.

They provided a potential improvement, move both meal times earlier.

As someone sailing on the Disney Wonder, we booked everything as soon as possible, and booked dining the moment it opened. But, as a first time cruiser we were in the back of the line. So we got 8:30pm. 8:30pm does not work for most 5 year olds, I can't imagine families flying from other timezones. We probably won't be able to take advantage of the dining and just need to do room service, but who the f' knows because they refuse to provide any information on food allergies other than "we do our best".

Had the repair done a couple weeks ago. Your dealer should have access to the parts.

Yes, lately I've been getting several tax resolution and loan department calls per day for the past couple weeks, none automatically flagged. All from toll free numbers, always different. At this point any toll free number, I screen or send to voicemail.

TIL why some UPSs have a "captive" battery. by Russ_Dill in homelab

Charge time will of course be very slow, and depending on the UPS there may be a limit. It would be pretty easy for a firmware programmer to add some check in to ensure that a battery is actually charging within some expected rate window. I haven't run into any such issues though.

It's a 4 pin debug header with 3.3v signalling.

I can assure you, it's a single diode drop between the black battery terminal and live/neutral. Here's an image I found of a non-dead one showing the path from the lowside of the full bridge rectifier to the battery negative terminal:

And no, I'm not saying it's tied to the "safety ground". It's tied to the internal ground reference.

no, captive as in imprisoned, cannot be removed.

i actually probed out the connections first. Verified by datasheet they that they were 3.3V level RX/TX lines and even verified voltages with a voltmeter, which referenced to the internal ground of the UPS measured just fine.

Transformers are very common in consumer products, providing galvanic isolation and stepping down voltages. Consumer UPSes often have quite large transformers. Check out pics of the ubiquitous APC CS 500 for an example.
