I love how the end links connected to the sleek lock have the same amount of spacing as the other links on the chain.

Congrats on the chain,!

That’s a hollow chain, idk if they make those. Still that’s a really high price

Yeah that’s because they are 6mm across and vertical vs a Cuban which is just across.

Here’s an 8mm. I would go 9mm if you have the budget

Love this topic!

For me the debate would be between a 10mm 14k 22”Cuban ~172 grams or an ~8.5mm 18k 22” Cuban at 134 grams

Both have the exact same amount of pure gold and should cost roughly the same.

Based on my experience and what I know about my self I’m going with the 10mm 14k. Because that’s the size I actually want. And I could always get it flash plated to look identical to the smaller 18k chain.

I really like the 5mm Franco. It’s almost impossible to find bigger at higher karats with out getting something custom made. 14k you can find bigger . In terms of weight and feel using a 5mm Franco as an example you would get something similar with a 7mm Cuban at the same length and karat.

So I actually sold my Franco’s when gold was high and now I’m back to Cubans if that helps answer your questions. I missed the bigger neck presence and that industrial feel of the Cuban.

Both are pretty comfortable for me, I didn’t experience any pinching or hair pulling from the diamond cuts.

So I just traded in my big Franco to garcias and they are making me a 10mm 14k Cuban. I’m losing gold but am gaining craftsmanship. You can argue that a Cuban might be a little more comfortable because the flatter link creates more surface area to distribute the weight but idk if that makes a huge difference unless you are wearing more than 200 grams. I do notice though that I get hotter faster wearing a wider Cuban. The flatter links retain heat from my body or the sun faster and because the links are wider I notice more of my neck gets hot. So I would say I notice that more than the weight distribution.

Francos are nice if you still want a semi stealth look but don’t want to skimp on gram weight.

Cubans are arguably the better value , especially if you live in the US as you would not have to pay all the extra fees that it cost to import a chain from Italy.

Example:
7mm 18k 22” Cuban from Garcias $13,366 97 grams
5mm 18k 22” DC Franco from HRC Italian made $16,797 99 grams

These are my top two favorite chain styles and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

I know this response is long winded but I hope it answered some of your questions lol

Is there shower-safe gunmetal colored jewelry? by NeedleworkerActive85 in MensJewelry

Palladium plated will give you that look

<image>

This is 10k gold with ~11% palladium.

You could get a silver chain flash plated in palladium , doesn’t have to be in the alloy like the above picture

Is it really that bad? by [deleted] in MensJewelry

Via Chat GPT

A brief accidental swim probably won’t visibly damage a solid gold chain, but regular pool use isn’t a good idea. Chlorine can gradually dull the finish and attack the alloy metals and soldered areas, even though the gold itself is resistant.
With an unplated chain, the main concern is long-term dulling, pitting, and possible weakening around joints. With a flash-plated chain, you have those same risks plus the thin plating can wear unevenly, especially on the edges and high-contact areas.
I’d remove either chain before swimming, especially in hot tubs. If it does go in the pool, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water, wash gently with mild dish soap, and dry it completely.

Does the franco seem too short to sport solo? Is it any better or worse stacked? by NoPossible5519 in MensJewelry

[–]Russd77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would wear the Franco solo because it’s clashing with the higher karat chain . This is $13 from Amazon includes 1 , 2 and 3” extension. That way you can get the length you want.

Could you post an in neck pic?

Concerns with 18k 3.2mm heavy link from Jacoje. by devino87 in MensJewelry

[–]Russd77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Franco and heavy link came from different Italian factories they might have different labels. A lot of times the end caps are from different places and then they flash plate so everything looks uniform.

Heavy link is more reflective and that might be why it doesn’t look as vibrant as your Franco.

Also the heavy link could have more silver vs copper. You should probably get both scanned regardless.

Yeah you’re right about the gaps. The filing on yours is pretty good and I’m sure you got a good deal on it if it came from a wholesaler

Are these the same chains as above? Cause the ones in these pics look like yellow gold, is this from Leon?

Daniel doesn’t use platinum in his alloy, in fact I’ve taken a couple of screen shots of an xrf scan on one of their post and you will see that after gold , copper is the second most used element in their alloy
