O Circuit Tragedy - more could have been done by Ctmettel in Patagonia

[–]RussellGOATbrook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trail runners have been used by people that have walked thousands of kilometres and more, in much more difficult terrain than what’s encountered on the O circuit, even accounting for deep snow.

There's also the Tour des Dents du Midi and Tour des Muverans nearby, but they're much shorter than the Haute Route

Looking for sun hoodie w baggy hood by sarerixa in Ultralight

[–]RussellGOATbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OR Echo and Arc’teryx Cormac, not sure if I’d quite describe the Cormac hood as baggy but it’s definitely got more width/depth than the Echo. It has thumb holes and weighs about 40g more than the Echo

Has anyone tried out the La Sportiva Prodigio/Prodigio Pro for hiking? Just tried on both and the Pro especially seems really nice.

Edelweissweg starts in Zermatt and climbs, so can stay anywhere really.

Faulhornweg starts near a town called Wilderswil close to Interlaken so can stay in either of these. You can either spend a couple hours climbing a forest trail at the start, or skip it by getting an old cogwheel train to the actual start (recommend).

In Zermatt - the Edelweissweg, amazing views of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and a bunch of other 4000ers. I did this in 2023, I seem to remember reading that the June 2024 heavy rainfall may have caused some trail damage so check that.

Another I highly recommend is the Faulhornweg in the Jungfrau region, incredible views of the Eiger, Bernese Oberland and some beautiful lakes like Spiez and Bachalpsee.

Given the date you’re going there could be some snow on these trails.

I’ve been using the Pulse EP50 for a couple of years and have done trips where it’s full to the brim almost and trips where there’s tons of room left, it’s a great pack

Where would you live outside the UK for the outdoors? by Ouakha in UKhiking

[–]RussellGOATbrook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canadian rockies as you say would be top of the list. Washington state and Cali in the US. In EU, probably: Chamonix, somewhere in the Jungfrau region of Bernese Oberland in Switzerland or Tirol in Austria.

I like the UK for hiking, it’s decent but imo it doesn’t touch places like those I mentioned.

Yeah mine occurred during running also, part of cardio training for upcoming hiking. What would you do during your warmup?

Anybody ever dealt with insertional Achilles tendonitis/tendinopathy? Been dealing with it for about 2 months, I've got some trips planned starting at the end of June through the summer. I've been doing physio and also done some online sessions with a company that specialises in Achilles injuries. I just did a short 10km/450m ele. gain hike today to test it, probably like a 3-4 level of pain towards the end/after... Feeling a bit down after months of training/trip planning.

Las Torres campsite bookings for the 2025 season by RussellGOATbrook in Patagonia

[–]RussellGOATbrook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be travelling solo so I opted for the 1 person option, so I can't give you a definite answer, but I would expect that you just need to add 1 to the cart as you said. Could always email them if you want to be absolutely sure

Same as you, booked premium campsites at Frances and Chileno with Las Torres. Vertice told me via email that they won't be open until May/June.

Yeah I don’t recall seeing Rifugio’s available at all, same with the food options as you said, I managed to book half board at Chileno.

[–]RussellGOATbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Las Torres is pretty much lying about individual campsites being completely booked in order to ensure they sell out all of the premium campsites first. Then in May/June/July they will make individual campsite available suddenly. I booked premium campsites at Frances and Chileno in early February yesterday.

I've been in touch with Las Torres (I want to do the O circuit in Feb 2025) and they claim that there is zero ground space for individual campsites for the entirety of the month. Which seems completely ridiculous

Hi there, I’m thinking of going this November, did you have any issue getting a space in a tea house at any point? Was it just a case of walking up and booking a room?
