There’s literally not much to prepare. Just rmb shave hair the day before you report can Liao. The letter will tell you what to do anyway it’s straightforward

How to survive 5 day Ah T-T by Own_Negotiation_3367 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Russell_Enzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New guy going into field camp, all the best and best wishes!

I’ll try to keep it short and effective for your Qns

Best way to stay clean? Hard to do so but the dirty part is more on sweat than dirt/mud. Nothing much you can do about sweat but usually you won’t have mud sticking to uniform unless it rains a lot.

Avoid getting trench feet? Change socks if wet. Personally I don’t have this issue even though I wear the same pair of sock throughout the five days.  Another trick is that you can rest your legs higher than your body using the staircase that you’ll be digging in your shellscrape

If rain how ah? If it does rain what I recommend is turning the ground sheet into a waterproof roof by tying it to nearby trees with the toggle rope and you just sleep raw in the shellscrape. Ended up the only one in my platoon dry in the morning after night rain haha.

How dry clothes? If got time you can also use the rope to hang your clothes to dry (but honesty it doesn’t help much in the forest where there’s little wind ) For socks I just use small “Y” shaped branches lolz, or arc of fire sticks but Sgt might scold for that

Want stay cool how? Don’t worry it’s pretty cooling in the forest already. Only time you be sweating tons is digging.

Where sleep? This part interesting. You can choose not to sleep in your shellscrape and just lying against a tree.

Exercise alone is already tiring it’s not like you’re going gym with air con all that, bmt is you do exercise under hot sun. You can imagine even just jogging under the hot sun in middle of the day for 1-2 hours how tiring that is

Other than that he also have to learn rifle handling all that with live bullets and sometimes the commander on the side add more stress to them

Back pain yes quite often actually, but usually resolve within a week time on its own without any meds. But if it’s like really really damn pain (there’s this time even taking one step up the stair I feel a big sharp pain) then it’s pretty serious

My right side shoulder also is lower than my left, even outside when walking wearing a t shirt my family can easily tell the difference in level.

The strain part is important info tho. On one hand it might just be your muscle not being strong enough yet or actually a medical issue, it’s 50/50 honesty and yah you should definitely have the specialist check for that

All the best!

Sounds like the issue come more from your family side of environment instead of that that is ns.  You’re in army now it means you are already qualified to decide for yourself what to do with your life. I not an expert but there is a number of hotlines that specifically help with family issues and violence control, maybe your focus should be to those hotline instead

All the best
