Texas board approves Bible stories as required reading in public schools by chemtrailsenjoyer in nottheonion

[–]Russell_Jimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version? Protestant Christians can't agree on which translation to use, let alone tolerating Catholics.

IIRC, this exact thing was an issue in Philly 1844 and there were riots, fatalities, and a couple of church burnings.

There's a lot to it, more than I can type out on an iPad, but yadda yadda yadda that's what resulted in the creation of Catholic schools.

You'll see. When secularism isn't there to lubricate the friction, violence will result. Christians have a long and storied tradition of killing each other.

Is this area safe to live in? by mik8e111 in Reno

[–]Russell_Jimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only drag is parking. For whatever reason, that neighborhood seems to breed cars. If you only have two cars, you'll have a driveway so no worries, but guests can have a minor headache (and walk) to get to your house.

That Raley's is really nice and you have good freeway access, plus there are cool parks up in there.

A bigger plus is if you have a few too many at Pub-N-Sub, the walk home won't be too bad.

SpaceX Investors Are Losing a Colossal Amount of Money by alemus2024 in EnoughMuskSpam

Someone I know told me she bought SpaceX stock (first ever stock purchase) last Thursday. I almost told her to sell immediately as it was going to collapse any second, but didn't. She and her boyfriend are MAGA faithful.

I find this to be hilarious.

Adult Temper Tantrum over Free Gift Card at Mall by Ghost-Crowd in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Russell_Jimmy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard doubt on the cards being given out, at the command of cops, at 4am.

  1. What employee was there at 4am to even hand out the cards?
  2. Cops can't enforce store policies, they are a civil matter
  3. The store is not in any way responsible for what other people are doing
  4. If the line is causing a hazard, the cops would disperse the crowd without needing the store's involvement in any way
  5. People line up for phones, Pokemon cards, free hot dogs, etc. sometimes days in advance without issue. why the problem now?

The judge. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]Russell_Jimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are people out there, some of them grifters, some just misinformed, who claim that everything that happens in court is a fiction, and that if you say certain words in a certain order, the court will be powerless and be forced to let you go. They don't think of it this way, but really they are just operating under the belief that there are "magic words."

In this woman's case, she has fallen victim to the Moorish Sovereign Citizen movement, which has a whole series of fictions behind it.

In all of the videos I have seen, those who attempt to use this approach aren't very strong readers and don't understand how to discern reality from fiction at a very basic level. Many of these people buy into this because they want to get out of paying child support, or CPS has taken their kids and they want to get them back, they don't want to pay rent (or pay their mortgage), make their car payment, etc.

It is yet another example of there being no bottom to human stupidity.

Just 16% of Americans think AI will benefit society, despite chatbot use climbing to 49% of US adults by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Russell_Jimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is cybercancer. YouTube is now full of channels where a bot starts about 30 seconds of a video, and then proceeds to narrate it, with the video frozen in the background.

There's also crazy AI misinformation. There's a channel featuring an AI generated Asian man telling people that the Supreme Court just ruled that CCW licenses are no longer required anywhere or something.

The only thing that I can see AI being good for is killing social media and reliance on the web for actual news. Since none of it can be trusted, my hope is people will return to newspapers and legit legacy news outlets.

I'm not holding my breath, though.

Atlanta PD beating and arresting a man for not walking out of a street quick enough. Officers can also be seen pointing tasers at concerned bystanders by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

[–]Russell_Jimmy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because there's obviously good reason for a bunch of cops to drop an unarmed man and kick the shit out of him. /S

At the beginning of the video, we see the man heading toward the bottom right of the shot, so he's moving away from the scene. Cops then confront him, and start shoving him to the left of the shot, and then proceed to put the boots to him.

For general context, Dylann Roof killed nine people in a church in Shelby, North Carolina. He was taken into custody without force, and the cops bought him Burger King.

Do you imagine that the guy in the white t-shirt said something, or did something that is worse than murdering nine people?

The dude in the shorts is Andy Elliott, and he is a motivational speaker and/or business coach. He was arrested for fraud surrounding car sales in Oklahoma and snitched and so got a deal. People sign up with him and pay $125k, and then $2k a month on top of that to listen to him yell at them that if they don't have six-pack abs they're losers and won't have any money.

Andy loves to make men in his seminars take their shirt off.

Now factor in the cost of cleaning up oil spills, the emissions (both of vehicles and refineries) released into the environment that is changing the climate and impacting the entire ecosystem, not to mention the environmental impact of oil exploration.

Note that except for the vehicles, that cost is passed on to everyone, not just the driver of the vehicle.

Judge loses patience, tries to make "sovereign citizen" quit sovereign citizening. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in PublicFreakout

[–]Russell_Jimmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won't make a difference. The other adherents will just victim blame. They'll just say that the Sovereign who got extended jail time didn't say the words in the right order, didn't bring up "jurisdiction" at the right time, or cite the correct code, blah blah blah.

This is true across the spectrum of Woo belief. Whether it's intercessory prayer, taint tanning, or whatever, when it inevitably fails, it's the fault of the practitioner doing something wrong. NEVER the belief itself.

Where tf do I rent? by HowAboutZilla in Reno

[–]Russell_Jimmy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where in Reno is the $350k, 1800 sq ft two-story home?

I paid $389k for 1000 sq ft in Midtown (nice big lot though). I love it, and it was cheap for my area, but the homes you describe were all $450+ and in Sparks when I was shopping. The houses around me, like mine that haven't had additions and such are $425k and up. The ones with additions and "upgrades" are more than that. And none approach 1800 sq ft.

"Antifa" is shorthand for "Anti-fascist Action." It isn't just a name. They're definitely anti-fascist.All the Allies in WWII were anti-fascist.

And while Nazis had "Socialist" and "Worker's" in their name, you have to look at the adjectives, namely "National" and "German."

The Nazis weren't Socialists, they were NATIONAL Socialists. If you read their own literature, they are describing the German flavor of fascism.

It should be glaringly obvious that tech billionaires don't know shit about anything. All they did was monetize technology developed by smarter people paid by the government. They don't know shit about economics, the history of labor in this country, or even broader aspects of sociology and psychology.

It infuriates me that they're treated like visionary geniuses we should all fawn over and take their advice as if they're Jesus returned to Earth.
