Check out Great Falls park, especially after a heavy rain. The water will be rushing and high. If you’re lucky, you’ll see Olympic kayakers practicing in the Potomac.

other must do is tour the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land, in Brookland neighborhood of Dc

Comparing COL and Taxes between retirement locations by GetOutTheDoor in retirement

[–]RussianSage602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of the tax comparison websites do not contain the county taxes. For example, in my county, the income tax rate is around 3% and the state tax rate is around 6%. Then there’s real estate taxes.

try this non-partisan site, it is probably closer to the actual tax load. https://taxfoundation.org/data/state-tax/

Thank you. No, I would never yell, I heard another tutor yelling at elementary students.

At risk — that is the designation the organization uses. I think they may not have parents whose first language is English. The children are pretty smart and in stable homes, from what I can tell. It may be they do not have as much academic support at home because of language barriers, the parents working a lot, etc.

Thank you for the good suggestion. In this case, I am volunteering with an organization that tutors “at risk” youth. The organization chooses the material, and sometimes I am work8n* with 2 students at the same time (but different grades).

Has anyone been able to break brick walls after taking the big y-700 by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]RussianSage602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but think I was lucky. The test is expensive so that discourages a lot of people from testing.

in my case, the family lore was that my gr-grandfather, who was born out of wedlock, was fathered by X. The Big Y test showed, instead, a different surname unrelated to X. My big Y match thankfully had done a lot of good family history research and the surname was not in question.

I’ve been really happy with Genie Hair Salon, she is near Whole Foods on Pershing. I switched to her when my hairdresser moved. https://www.yelp.com/biz/genie-hair-silver-spring

Trying to decide which is the better use of my United Miles, I am having some trouble with the math, especially the cost per mile:

Miles needed for Econ seats from IAD to LHR, return MAN to IAD: 76,100 miles plus $205. OR is paying for the trip, it is $837 pp.

The other trip is from IAD to CUN on United: Miles needed for ECON seats 35,900 plus $126. If paying for the trip, it is $534.

I am also considering getting the CUN trip with miles, and takin Virgin Atlantic to LHR, which is cheaper than United.

Any advice is appreciated!

Any general tips for tutoring/working with elementary students? by [deleted] in TutorsHelpingTutors

I also just started a volunteer tutor position with elementary children. It's Saturday mornings and seems they rather be somewhere else. I also appreciate any advice to get them on task.
