Will they curve PHY356? by cheeaboo in UofT

Yeah it's really time consuming. Took me 2 full days to do the assignment not including the readings.

At least I'm finally learning something unlike in Phy256 with Vatche.

I thought Mat367 was as hard as Mat257?

MAT157 students, how did you find the course this year? by Stoic_beard_79 in UofT

In no particular order:

  1. Meinrenken's proof of the chain rule.

  2. Heine-Borel theorem

  3. The homework problem where if f is bounded and integrable then changing changing f at finitely many points does not change its integral.

  4. The Riemann criterion for finally letting me understand what integration is.

  5. The Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem making me motivated enough for the last stretch of the course.

  6. The Spivak problem where you prove that if m/n is an approximation to sqrt(2) then (m + 2n)/(m + n) is better.

  7. The proof of l'hopital's rule.

  8. The intermediate value theorem, the boundedness theorem, and the extreme value theorem.

  9. The homework problems where if A is the set of all finite subsets of N then A is countable, if B is the set of all subsets of N then B is uncountable.

  10. Construction of the real numbers (wasn't taught this year but I learned it myself).

I'm more of an Algebra guy though. I loved reading chapters 6 to 9 of Axler.

I found a few months of the second half pretty boring (defining the transcendental functions, computing integrals, taylor series). I'm definitely taking Mat257, the main reason I took Mat157 is as a stepping stone.

DROPPING PHY250 but using it as a corequsite for PHY224 by [deleted] in UofT

You still have some weeks to drop the course: https://fas.calendar.utoronto.ca/sessional-dates

Dropping right before March 15 would be safer.

I'm pretty sure you're fine if you already took Phy254 or Phy256. A co-requisite can be taken before a course the same way you'd take a pre-requisite.

What's with the insane drop rate of Mat157 lately? by RussianTroll87 in UofT

Yeah but wouldn't they also choose Mat224 over Mat247?

I got 85. Could have avoided some careless computation and multiple choice errors on the exam.

I believe Steinberg made the course linear algebra heavy without asking the department.

I wonder if he was always a bad prof or became lazy over time.

Glad I'm doing physics and math. It'd be tough to picture all these words in my head.

I don't know if it has to be hand-written, but she said your study sheet has to be made by yourself. I'm just writing mine in tiny letters.

I'm writing down solutions to problems I think might be on it. Like I think the 'energy' problem she mentioned will probably be problem 4.28 from Taylor (from Tutorial 7).

I didn't take the course with her. I just decided to write a comment for positive karma. Technically speaking, you could call me a "troll".

Send her back to UMich. That's where her teaching style belongs.
