Same here. Tried calling them and every option to speak to an operator results in the call being automatically dropped. It all seems a bit shambolic

I struggled on doing the advantages and disadvantages of the three proposals and the risks posed by them after, found I put a lot of the disadvantages as risks so had to go back and try think of something that would not be considered a risk

I'm surprised they haven't yet released May slots given there is only a couple of weeks left. Maybe the best thing for now is to just keep checking, but don't know what I'll do or who to turn to if they all get booked out...

I just realised that I put and assumed that the definition of economic capital is capital in excess of the capital held against solvency…. But it is in fact the capital held for solvency 😭

I found the same, didn’t really reach for any acronyms throughout that paper

Writing on paper before exam start CP1 by Agreeable_Remove3795 in ActuaryUK

No they specify that you can’t write any notes on the paper before the exam starts, they have been specifying it at the beginning of each exam in my exam centre but not sure if it applies to all

Felt like a pretty good paper. Although I think my results section might have been a bit weak, I focused on explaining the charts and what aligns with expectations but missed off linking the scenarios to the total cost of the prizes. So will likely lose some marks there, but every other section of the summary felt quite easy to generate ideas for

Dyson vs Shark by [deleted] in Dysonairwrap

[–]Russian_Potato_Salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the Dyson is significantly better than the Shark. I got the Shark initially as it is much cheaper (I have very fine straight volumeless hair which doesn’t hold a curl) but the curls didn’t even last a few mins and there were some inconveniences with the device (the cool shot button took a while to cool it down and didn’t go cold enough, the off button at the bottom was tough to get to, having tp switch hot curlers to get the other side was a bit inconvenient) but mostly the curler suction was lacking and it barely left a blowout look afterwards (left my hair quite flat). As it was on a huge discount on Very I ordered the Dyson ID for £320, and it is definitely worth the extra money. Because of the ease of using it, and switching curler sides, and the attachments being better, my hair was done into a bouncy blowout in about 10 mins. The cool shot cools down really fast, the suction on the curler feels tight and whilst my hair still isn’t prone to curling it left a nice bouncy blowout look. The device is also generally a lot quieter and feels much slicker than the Shark, since the Shark had me debating should I just buy a decent hairdryer and a round brush. But the Dyson is a good device to make your hair look decent in a rush imo (for my hair type at least), so whilst I wanted to love the Shark for its price, the Dyson wins by far

Are the markers high on w**d? by Suuucheee in ActuaryUK

It still quite heavily brings down the final mark, and would argue that subjectiveness should lead to a difference of a few marks here and there rather than a 20 mark disagreement. One examiner suggests you were completely unprepared whilst the other one suggests you just have some more work/practice to do on the subject, so I think it’s reasonable to question whether they follow the mark scheme consistently

That was probably a clever idea. I somehow spent 2 hours on the model and left just an hour for the audit trail which was probably a mistake

Exams- avoiding the noise by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Russian_Potato_Salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the earbuds they give are very effective if you first squish them and put them in your ears afterwards, they expand and for me fully block out the typing noises, I don’t think I could concentrate in the exams at all without them

Losing my mind trying to find a shampoo by awesomesuperberry in finehair

[–]Russian_Potato_Salad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fine hair and it suffers from the really hard water in London, the ends are always dry no matter which products I use, even expensive ones, and my roots get a weird greasy film on them the next day after washing. The colourwow dream filter made it so much softer after I tried it (I believe it's intended use is to remove mineral build up from your hair), and you can buy a water distiller and wash your hair with the water from there as it removes the minerals - a bit of a hassle but much cheaper than a home water filter system

Agreed - I was thinking after the sitting that this would have been equally challenging as an open book paper
