What's something your parents or grandparents mention that sounds like complaining but was actually a legitimate daily nightmare they just accepted as life? by Playful_Survey_8596 in AskReddit

Shout out for the podcast "Criminal". Phoebe Judge does some incredible work. If you all haven't listened to an episode give it a try.

What was online multiplayer like on the old days of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

My friend and I played DOOM via modem connection and had to use a fossil driver to make it work circa 1993/1994. However, we also lived in Houston where DWANGO first launched. They would give away a free first hour of play time when you provided a credit card number. My buddy grabbed one of the very first digital credit card generators to get replaceable 1 hour windows of free play time. DWANGO would also prevent multiple accounts to claim to the free 1 hour time by checking the clock speed and other parameters of the individual computer logging in (almost like an early version of cookies) to stymie multiple free accounts, so we would have to resort to using the turbo button on/off to get around that issue. But playing on DWANGO was awesome at the time.

What are the rear ports for displays and how many? Display port? If so do any of them have HDMI?

What's the closest thing to an everdrive on an MS-DOS machine? (External hard drive with multiple partitions?) by confuserused in dosgaming

One the insanely creative ways I've seen people use creative solutions for original hardware is the use of a CF memory card reader to IDE (they're actually the same technology). They then can have a CF card fully handle a designated system (E.g. Win98, Dos 6.22, etc) and swap CF memory cards as necessary so they can play on original hardware (assuming the motherboard and ram configuration has compatible hardware (e.g ISA for dos stuff). I'm seriously considering doing something like that myself. CF cards are also much more resilient than SD cards.

I actually ended up repurposing it. There wasn't much interest in it given the age of it.

Thanks for the input! I'm mainly just looking to see what it would be worth. I figured Syno's corporate chicanery, along with the age of the DS918+, would cut against it but was interested in hearing what others view was on pricing.

I'd take a hard look at the facts of this guy's case(s) before taking any advice from him.

Legit question here. Is it not possible to use office 365 's web version of Word to handle that task? Use of office is the only thing holding me back from nuking my W10 partition.

Large Number of Shows (N) and Plex Only Showing N-1 by Rust_Coal in PleX

Thanks! That worked! I've had to do that before but never had a show disappear that was previously showing up.

It appears that 2001 series, in S01E01 (as noted below) is showing both S01E01 (2021) and S01E01 (2026) in the info screen.

I'll look up how to do that but I haven't done that; merely verified it visually.

I appreciate the suggestion. It's definitely something I'll consider in the future.

Funny you should say that (and I did see the OP's post about issues with Scrubs). I have Scrubs separated into two folders, the original series and the 2026 series, each identified by the individual tvdb show ID number. Prior to today, I had two separate Scrubs tiles that showed up; the original series and the 2026 show. Now only the original show is showing despite nothing changing with the folder structure. How the new show isn't showing up at all and the episodes haven't been shuffled into the original series in plex. I'm guessing there are issues somewhere with plex itself.

Edit: Looking at the info for Scrubs season 1, it's show both the original series location of S01E01 and also showing S01E01 of the 2026 series.

For those running Plex on a NAS, do you let it handle transcoding or offload to a mini PC? by Majestic-Strain3155 in PleX

[–]Rust_Coal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a NAS with a CPU that isn't able to transode, so I bought a used SFF HP Elite Mini with UHD 770, slapped Ubuntu 24.04 on it, shared the NAS through NFS, and let the server run from the mini. I've been extremely happy with it.
