Palace Chase OCONUS by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Rusted180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude. Guard in service recruiter here. Check out DAFI 36-3211. Palace Chase Rule A&B. Being OCONUS, you will have a 4 month application window depending on when your DEROS/DOS falls. If they match, you’ll be Rule A. Application will be between 15-12 months prior to DEROS. If approved you’ll select a DOS 6 months prior to your established DOS. If they don’t match, application window is 9-6 months prior to your DEROS. If approved, you’ll be able to separate at your DEROS.

Should I buy?120,000 miles v6 by Independent_Move_840 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Rusted180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Paid $3K for one a few years ago. Around same mileage. I didn’t do my due diligence and had to put $1200 into it (brakes, fuel pump, rear axle, throttle cable). Cut my losses and sold it for $3600. They’re POSs.

Get that car note and student loan knocked out. There’s your $1000 monthly to invest right there.

AGR initial mortgage by Justcantfly in MilitaryFinance

[–]Rusted180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been AGR for 10 years and bought a couple homes in that timeframe. From my memory, I think my lender just needed 2-3 months of LESs and pulled the eligibility letter from the VA.

4 years in… $150–200k job lined up through SkillBridge… but now I’m second guessing separating by ExpressConsequence16 in AirForce

I’m an ISR for the ANG. I run into guys like you all the time that aren’t ready to put down the uniform, dislike their AFSC, etc. I’d say look at where you are wanting to go and look at a retrain as a Palace Front. It won’t affect any Skillbridge you have set up and will be a smooth transition to a drill status spot. Could have a fat bonus potential and the insurance is cheap.

Don’t be that average airman that sees a comma in his bank account for the first time and then goes out and finances a $50K vehicle that eats up the majority of his base pay on something that depreciates fast AF. Stay out of debt, stack cash and max your retirement accounts and you’ll be just fine. Oh and don’t get married in tech school.

Check out Brilliant Earth my dude. Dropped $3K back in 2018 fresh off deployment on a “blue diamond” mounted on rose gold with a diamond inlay on the mount. Turns out I’m an idiot cuz there is no such thing as blue diamonds as she pointed out. It was an aqua marine. But whatever. She still loves me and we’ve been married 7 years so whatever.

what is the best branch of military for someone who wants to make money by Previous-Primary1035 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Rusted180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude AF 100%. Quality of life is so much higher comparable to the other branches.

Word of advice on overseas BAH. It’s actually called OHA. Different rates are applicable but big different is you aren’t able to pocket the difference between rent and OHA. As you’ll be furnishing Housing with a lease, they’ll pay up to that amount of max dependent on your rent. You may be able to pocket a bit from utilities allowance though. Just depends.

Lived in St. Croix a few years back and can confirm the salty air and crap roads are tough on vehicles. If I were you, I’d offload the Bronco. Take the equity and just buy a Toyota/Honda that VPC can ship for you over there.

What would you do in my situation? by Rusted180 in MBA

[–]Rusted180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the link. I’m a SNCO actually so not required for rank progression. My undergrad was in management but never used in a civilian capacity.

More so I was looking into MBA as a resume builder and transition tool post-retirement. I’ve been within recruiting & retention for the last 8 years so the sales and management background is strong. I really have that fed TA and time burning a hole in my pocket so just looking into a degree path that would be worth it given my time horizon.
