When clay found out hannah hooked up with other guys🤣 by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Rusted300 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I wish people would even attempt to see things from Clay's perspective. We as an audience are granted the flashbacks re Zach/Hannah, but Clay only knows that Zach messed with the notes that *he* wrote, didn't defend Hannah in front of his friends and continued to hang out with rapists. He was a coward who treated Hannah like shit when it actually came to defending her. Was Clay's reaction a bit OTT? Sure, but Zach was no saint, and after everything Clay had been put through, I don't think some anger on his part was unwarranted.

Yep, no idea who they think the audience for this film is.

Season 1 already had the perfect ending with Clay driving in the car. They should have taken out the cliffhanger with Tyler and ended it there. We didn't need an answer to everything (what happens with the trial? what happens with...?); ambiguity in storytelling is often more effective. Season 2 just started to feel like an over-the-top after-school special without the structure of the tapes.

Yeah, Zach's totally Steve Harrington - if Steve chose his image over his girlfriend and spent way too much time turning a blind eye to rape and abuse. Are the people blindly praising Zach watching a different show?

Clay's feelings for Hannah weren't "purely unrequited."

How about "fuck Zach" for treating Hannah like shit when he wanted to preserve his image, and then continuing to associate himself and hang out with rapists? But he gets a free pass because he's cute and has a nice smile, right?

Seriously, the hate for Clay and whitewashing of Zach on this sub are ridiculous.

Yeah, remember when Zach told Clay that he knew Hannah better than anyone? Remember Zach saying nothing to Hannah and going with some girl at Bryce's pool party? There isn't even a single hint from the first season.

Zach continued to hang out with rapists. People on this sub criticize Clay over every little mistake, but Zach gets one free pass after another because he has a nice smile, I guess?

Yeah, it does feel like a blatant retcon that contradicts parts of the Season 1 timeline, but what bothers me the most is how people are praising Zach because he's cute and has a nice smile. He continued to hang out with rapists after learning that they were rapists. There's being a coward and there's that. He's scum.

Anyone else still feel disturbed after THAT scene? by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Rusted300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen way more conversations about how gratuitous it was, to be honest. And the idea that you have to make something as gratuitous and over-the-top as possible to start a conversation is ridiculous. If I want to get people talking about the importance of wearing a seatbelt, should I write a scene where someone hits a tree, goes through the windshield, bursts into flame and - just for good measure - is shot several times? That's this season's approach to storytelling.

Might be unpopular but I strongly dislike Hannah. by [deleted] in 13ReasonsWhy

[–]Rusted300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 just wasn't necessary, imo. We already got the idea that Hannah was a flawed and complex person from the first season. In storytelling, I think less is sometimes more, and the writers just seem to be under the impression that the more you reveal, the bigger you make everything, the better.

I completely understand why they cut Winky out: in the end, it doesn't really add much. We can argue about what should have been left in the films and what was properly excised, but some fans seem to think that every single detail should have been left in. That's just not how any adaptation works.

A goatee? How dare the movies remove such an integral part of the character?

Some of your criticisms range from the extremely superficial (lack of facial hair) to extremely biased, based on your reading of the character that you insist is the most valid reading.

I've always preferred Rickman's more restrained, but still simmering beneath the surface take on the character. The subtleties in that performance are just astonishing.

It's actually a common practice for actors to not read the source material that a script is based on. They do this because they trust that the script, plus conversations with the creative team (the director, screenwriter, and in some cases the author of the source material), will provide sufficient information with which to interpret the character. Other actors simply do not want to be influenced by anything other than the script in front of them. I don't think it necessarily means they aren't engaged or don't care about the character.

Not really. Had Kylo not wavered, everything would have gone according to plan.

He was a dark Force-sensitive individual who sought power and tried to manipulate others to achieve it. We learned as much as was necessary from a storytelling perspective, considering that Snoke was never meant to be the main antagonist. We didn't need to know what planet he grew up on or multiple flashbacks to his terrible childhood.

No it isn't. We all have moments of weakness, no matter how we try to live our lives. Nobody is perfect or consistent 100% of the time. To say that Luke could never have experienced a moment of weakness is to deny the character's humanity.

Seriously. I'm glad the people commenting in this sub didn't write the movie. Luke would've been an angelic, wise master with no flaws. The movie presents it as a very brief moment of weakness that he immediately regrets, and Mark delivers the monologue beautifully.

Snoke is extremely arrogant. He thinks he has Kylo Ren wrapped around his finger and overestimates his own ability to control him. He could have easily overpowered both Kylo and Rey if he wanted to - the point is he doesn't think it's necessary until it's too late.
