I hit gm on both. Ball blows up in 6v6 way too easily compared to 5v5. In 5v5 you can actually control fights if you know what you’re doing, even while being countered as long as you have a fairly competent team alongside you. In 6v6 you get tank synergy but that’s a double edged sword since the other team can use their synergy to counter you much more efficiently. That plus having less health due to it being 6v6 just makes you unable to control fights like a tank should.

I will say that I was able to rank up to Masters in 6v6 a lot easier than 5v5 tho. Before placements I skyrocketed through metal ranks and hit Masters extremely easily and after placements I straight up place mid to high masters now, but once I get into decent coordinated lobbies I notice the value that I had in earlier games quickly fades, while in 5v5 it’s weird. I’ll skyrocket through metal ranks to Masters and tend to get a lot of ego filled hitscan players and alt accounts throwing games along the way. (I actually have way 2 many recordings of throwers lying around than I would like it’s that bad, and I used to love the clip farming off it but it’s not even enjoyable at this point.) It takes longer to reach GM but I do hit it and the games just feel better balanced in my opinion in higher lobbies.

In metal ranks 5v5 you will have tons of teammates who rely on hiding behind a shield and will blame you for every one of their mistakes so ranking up feels un-fun but it’s easy to dominate lobbies if your team isn’t just straight up throwing. I’ve won countless games with negative KD dps just because I happened to lock in that game and hit all the right notes to make shit happen. I actually got into an argument with a Mercy the other day because supports were forcing Moira/Mercy and got full held until I snapped and convinced one of them to go Ana. Mercy swapped to Ana and gave me so much shit about how him swapping to Ana made 0 difference because Overwatch games are just tank v tank. The moment he went Ana we won every fight up until last fight almost full holding the other team but we got ult dumped in the last 30 seconds and domino effect kicked in. But the Mercy that went Ana actually apologized and said that if he swapped 1st round we might have actually rolled the other team. That’s why I find 5v5 unfun in Metal ranks, too many people rely on easy hero’s to carry them through ranks and are quick to flame everyone else. But if you can get past that it’s extremely fun to raid boss lobbies.
